You can volunteer on-line!

Here are two organizations that match your interests with the needs of an organization:

Volunteer Match

Idealist - Action without Borders

The great thing is, you don't necessarily have to commit to a specific schedule (i.e. every Thursday afternoon for 3 hours).

Volunteering is something that you have stay with once you start, you should anyway. So, if you're having a useless day or none of your lady friends want to hangout just opt to wade it out, it will pass.
If you're serious, "The United Way"(
( Homeless Shelter & Animal shelters/))
Checking with food drives at your grocery store sometimes will offfer things that the general public can get in on.
"Soup Kitchens/Hospice/ Retirement Communities/ Nursing Homes" These many be private and/or under different guidelines, which means they prefer just to have monetary items like money, but not always.
Social Services in your local area can direct you to alot of nonprofit organizations and gear you with more details.
Trust me, it may even be possible for you to incorporate what you for your profession into "Volunteering and Charitible Organizations"!!
Peace
You're online, start will Good Will and then go Social Services. People adore those who just wanna help.

Some cities have a Volunteer Bureau or a Community Services Directory, listing places open to volunteers. First, you can check on those. The SPCA, hospitals, and most public schools are always open to volunteers, in my experience. If you want to join a broader cause, look at the book below, for many suggestions.

Just go to any old folks home or a hospice,or even orphanage and offer urself,it doesn't take alot and i think once u start to volunteer,u'll feel great and happy, seeing those ppl happy, just with u beside those ppl that u volunteer to help is already great to them,be a listening ear,do with an open heart and u'll feel loved being with unfortunate ppl..so just go and offer urself, doesn't hurt to try,or go to the website if they have one in ur town and email them..or even volunteer at an animal shelter..all the best.

Go to the local animal shelter and ask if they need any help. Most of the time, the shelter is short staffed and would love to have someone come in and help with cleaning and socializing with the animals.
You can also find volunteer positions at your local library. Helping around the house is good too.

Try your local nursing facility. You can do things like help with daily activities (i.e. Bingo, snacks...). The residents might also like someone to read to them or just visiting. I used to be an activity director and volunteers were always needed. You will have to do a little training like watching a videotape and they will have to do a background check, so if you don't have any violent or drug offenses going on you should be ok. Good luck and I admire you for wanting to give to your community. I wish you the best.

Most local churches (especially the larger ones) might be able to help. Hospitals are often looking for volunteers. Some of the help may seem dull, but it will help others so much in many small ways.

Try Visiting Seniors, ask is there anything I can do for you today? So many have needs and to much pride to ask and do not want to impose.....They do need a floor mopped, a run to the grocery store, the plants watered, a light bulb changed.
We are so into (ME) that we often forget those that have walked before us, who are lonely, who would just love a smiling face, a kind word, a little touch to be reminded of the days they were loved and cared for. Forget not our elders! you will be rewarded with a JOY that you will not be able to hide. I have a regular weekly route and I take a man who is soon 82 years old with me, he loves it and he glows when we find someone who needs us. May God smile on you today!
