I want a thoughtful answer on this one, in the light of our society's tolerance of a great deal of privacy and personal freedom... Why exactly should we *care* if it seems like we have had an opportunity to sin? Or for you atheists who haunt this place, to do wrong? It applies equally well whether you think *God* is looking (or exists) or not ;)

we have no spirit,If the spirit of a man has no existence apart from the body, why does Stephen just before his death in Acts 7:59, pray to Jesus to "receive my spirit"? How could Jesus, who was in heaven, receive Stephen's spirit if a man's spirit ceases to exist when the body dies and if no one could enter heaven until the year 1914? Similarly, if the soul ceases to exist after the death of the body, why does Paul say that he would rather be “absent from the body” so he could go make his “home with the Lord” (2Cor 5:8), and why would he say that he would rather depart from this life so that he could go be with Christ (Phil 1:23)? How could Paul be “with Christ” and make his “home with the Lord” if no one could enter heaven until 1914? ,what about enoch, and the chap next to jesus on the cross,in paradise today with me...............

I am a good, happy person who cares about all living creatures. I have a wonderful life. I don't kill, hurt, or steal from anyone. I respect myself and all others. And I help people in need. What can a Christian life provide for me that I don't already have now and why do I need it.

Thanks for your help

Ok. I got a bunch of different answers. Don't you agree that it is an oxy moron to say wordly Christian?

When we say Christian, we are referring to being like Christ. Christ in no way was wordly. He was perfect and was that way till he took upon my sins and everyone elses sin.

So to say wordly Christian is wrong. Would you then call them a wordly believer? They are saved but are wordly in ways. You would not call them a Christian.

Some said that there can not be wordly and saved. I think it is possible, but one can not be like that for long because the Lord chastens. If there is no chastening then there is no salvation. Agree?

Do you understand what I'm trying to explain? I was just made aware of this today in a class I'm taking this week about spiritualmindedness.

If you have any mature comments I openly accept them.

Ps. Purity, I like your answer. Praise God!

We need sex to multiply and also to satisfy our physical and emotional needs. There's nothing sinful about it.
How come that my fellow human beings, the Christians, regard sex as a dirty thing and even consider their own children to have been born from a sinful act?
Why then did they engage in sexual intercourse?
Christians, Jews and Muslims are the most dumb people ever.

this has always bothered me ... how exactly did God do that?

did Mary emit an ovum? was her egg miraculously fertilized by an omnipotent sperm? or was there no egg (or icky sperm)and Baby J was pristinely God-made from nothingness?

where did the 46 chromazones that (in normal circumstances) make a human being come from? did Mary provide a gamete, or what? how did God's gamete present itself?

when did God intervene? how did He do that? did the angel Gabriel "come upon her" (ew!) in anything other than the figurative sense?

how and when - literally, biologically, in one-syllable words of basic reproductive science - did invisible God violate and impregnate this innocent Jewish maid?

My mother died recently and I'm finding it very hard to apply my atheist principals to her death. How should I/ would you as an Atheist deal with death? And what would you stipulate in your will to avoid a religious burial?

Muslims built Mosque in Hebron, where Abraham a.s.and Sarah a.s. believed being burried, is not different than muslims built Mosque in Medina where their own prophet s.a.w. was burried.

I dont mind any Jews hate muslims, and support the killings they did and do to muslims, because that's what lots of Jews doing from started anyway, but not for that reason, means not because muslims built mosque in Hebron and look after it.
I hope any Jews can see, how muslims really respect Abraham, more than any other believers . They dont pray for him as much as we do.

It's not amaze me that lots of Jews live with hatred to muslims, nothing new, and some even praise the masacre done by Barush Goldstein in 1994 and support bombing to all muslims.

But do Jews know that we all ,muslims are the only people who ordered to pray for Abraham and all of his ancestors at least 5 times a day ??

If some of you think/say : " So what?" my answer is " fine!" I am not the Judge.

I am sitting here with only a candle setting off its glowing light. The candle is all that is in my mind. Around me is blackness, only the glowing flame shows itself. There are no walls to reflect the light, there is only the light and the darkness. The flame is still but I can feel and hear a faint sound of air.

Where am I? Spiritually, physically or mentally?

I think I know the answer to this question.
Think about it. If there isn't what would you call a person who claims to be saved but is not living biblicly.

I am trying to find a particular story that I heard when I was little.
The story featured two brothers - the older brother is the favourite and he was indulged by his parents. The younger brother is ignored and is seen as worthless.
I want to use this story in a project I am doing for university, but I haven't been able to find it on the internet because my searches are too vague - problem is I don't have the information to narrow it down!
I'd really appreciate any help you could give me...

P.S. I am 99% sure that this story is a folktale, and so won't neccesarily be in a book.

Think about it. They were in the most beautiful place ever. Yet they decided to rebel and send themselves to hell... KNOWINGLY! Unlike humans who don't know... the fallen angels know what would happen yet they rebelled anyways. So why didn't they just obey and be safe instead of rebelling to get their own torture that they chosen?

a democracy with a religious leader (like a president) and/or strong religious political influence is not a democracy, but closer to a theocracy?
The USA today would be closer to a theocracy, than to a democracy, right?
In this case - what the US is trying to implement in the world is a theocracy and not democracy?

(Please don't give me the theocratical democracy argument, it doesn't make sense)

I realize some people may be offended by this but it's an honest question with no ill intent behind it. Now think about it, really I mean.. Religion threatens that if you don't obey you will be punished, in fact the threats in the old testament are frequent and quite emphatic, but then it promises rewards and leniency for cooperation etc... Throughout the old testament god does horrendous things to "his chosen people" and yet they still follow and worship him.. Isn't this exactly like god is a captor holding hostages who eventually become sympathetic to thier captor?? Could such a relationship be considered an example of Stockholm syndrome on a massive scale?? From a psychological viewpoint is religion comparable to this syndrome?

When a child or a very young person comes on R and S and asks a question that's an obvious embarassment to your beliefs, do you think you should counsel with that young person?

I have some adult friends who are Atheists and I was wondering if you ever feel embarassed by some of the silly, lame and ridiculous questions asked by juveniles on the R and S?

As logical and intelligent people, do you feel the need to correct them or guide them in some way? After all, they are young and some of them could use your wisdom! Do you ever advise them about the questions they ask?

I've had a really really really really bad day. Anyone have any ideas on how I can pick myself up? I don't want to watch a favorite movie (tried that already, didn't work). I don't want to listen to upbeat music (tried that too, again, it didn't work). Not even arts and crafts which usually picks me right up since I get so into it I get over whatever it was that made me so "Ugh!" in the first place.

What suggestions? And to those that are going to say stupid things like "blow yourself up", you only show your ultra low level of maturity, security, and intelligence.
