That's funny!!!
I have a nephew who participates in the S.O.
And he does know how to fight, we are from, & or in L.A.
That would b funny.
He'd beat them all, probably to a pulp.

note:
some folks aren't so bad off.
and as 1 person said "mentally retarded";
Aghumm--(clearing throat)
Not All persons in the S.O. are that!!!!!
I have 2 nephews w/ D.S., the severity varies.
As I said 1 of them Knows How to fight,
he'd probably 'clean ur clock', for saying that.
naw, actually he probably wouldn't: he's to sweet for that.
But, 1 of my sister's...that's different....
She was hurt in a car accident,
she's partially paralyzed & blind...
Now, She Would "Clean your Clock',
she did it to me once, kinda.
I looked to my right, saw it coming,
and turned my head to the left,Quickly!!
she caught me somewhat.
She doesn't have that mechinism,
that tells us "don't hit him / her."
Thank u folks.

Well, the disabilities of those who participate in the Special Olympics vary widely. That being said, boxing is something that could cause injury to the participants; something that is not the goal of the Special Olympics.

You know, in Oregon the state institution was closed in 2001. Some estimates are that 96% of the people that lived there were physically abused. Perhaps there is no boxing in the special olympics because their caregivers are beating them up already (No offense to the loving families and caregivers of people with developmental disabilities - the good ones are the majority). The fact remains that it remains socially acceptable to pick on individuals with cognitive disabilities. To be blunt - that sucks dude.

YER IN THE WRONG SECTION !!! Go to "special groups" .."people with disabilities" This is Religion and Spirituality. You were probably just on here...and forgot to select a new category.

How is this a relgion & spirituality question?

I would guess that any combat sport is a bad idea with mentally retarded contestants. I can't think of anyone that I know who would think it was a good idea to match people who can't quite process information quickly, and then let them injure each other and hope they can be stopped.
