yes it is somehow similar. u concentrate and repeat a word over and over again. but i think it is useful and help to relax. and sometimes because people haven't got nice memories of religon and anything related to it they prefer to go to other types. meditation has a origin in budism and budha was a kind of prophet in india except for the fact that he didn't beleive in god. he said that beleiving in god is the same as believing that world is created itself cause u can never find out who has created god.
