Come, behold the works of JAHWEH, what desolations he hath made in the earth. He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire. (Psalms 46:8-9)

I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I JAHWEH do all these things. (Isaiah 45:7)

The great day of JAHWEH is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of JAHWEH: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly. That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness, A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high towers. And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against JAHWEH: and their blood shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as the dung. (Zephaniah 1:14-18)

When the Olmecs arrived on the continent (or started their civilization) at about the same time as the Jaredites and vanished from the Earth at about the same time as the Jaredites.
This is a huge correlation of time from a people that were not discovered until after Joseph Smith died.
Just curious

Why do people always ask why Blacks call each other the N word, and they can't? Why do you want to? Why do women call each other ***** on a daily bases, but don't want guys to call them the name....same thing?

They have their reasons that we may not understand. Some think it is a control thing to try and erase the true meaning of the word. Yes, I hate the word and would never use it, but the bigger question is why are so many White teens, Mexican teens and other Non-Blacks calling each other the N word on a daily bases. I can't think of any reason why they are doing this?

Is it that atheists do not believe in the existence of a "God", and that agnostics might not believe but might be spiritual, or open to the idea of a God?

Thanks.

pick a side? Didn't you heed the words of Mr. Miyagi in "The Karate Kid?" -- "Walk on road, hm? Walk right side, safe. Walk left side, safe. Walk middle, sooner or later, get squished just like grape." So why don't you just pick?

What will YOU choose -- damnation or salvation?

This is a question for non-Christians who know about Christianity. In your opinion what major problems does it have? What is bad about it?

I am asking this because as a Christian i do not have an external and independent view of Christianity, so i want to see if others can see problems with it that i have not noticed.

Please be fair and objective, no Christian-bashing or abuse for the sake of it. And just saying things like "Christians are stupid" is not helpful.

Please also state your own belief system so i know where you are coming from (the objections raised by an Atheist might be different from those of, say, a Hindu).

Picture a couple walking down the street. The man has hair down to the middle of his back and the woman has very short hair, almost a crew cut. Are both gay, is one gay or neither of them gay? Explain your reasoning.

My GF wrote this question, but I'd be interested to know what people think as well.

son just told me that he is homosexual. Now I live in terror of my husband’s reaction and the consequent destruction of my family when he finds out. I imagine he’ll blame me for being too soft a mother, cut our son out of his life and that will be the end of my life and of our family.

Should I tell my husband, play dumb and allow him to figure it out eventually for himself?

What if he asks me? Should I say I knew, or act surprised along with him?

Should my son tell his father or just hide the fact, wait till he finishes his studies and moves away from home?

Maybe we can all avoid and deny the situation and continue to live forever as if everything was completely normal.

My husband is not a bad man, just a product of his family and society. I love them both.

Just curious.
As an Atheist, (former Southern Baptist and AA member- I have been exposed to Religion and a healthy lack of respect for it and the harm it causes is my honest opinion!), I have noticed the percentage of times the fur flies between Atheists and Christians (especially on R & S) is much greater than the times Atheists and Neo Pagans or Atheists and Muslims or Atheists and Jews have at it.
Is this because of an American slant. Christians hold power here. A Minority of Christians have declared Atheists as Unamerican and we have no doubt whom is going to be the first into the ovens (so to speak) if Fundamentalists get their dream of a Christian "Republic"
We'll probably be right beside the Neo-Pagans in the showers.
Is this the reason Neo Pagan superstition gets a free ride (or seems to sometimes) and Atheists and Christians seem to have at each other?

i have a histry of eating disorders but i've been over that for months now. i eat healthily and i eat regularly, but i still find it a bit hard to eat as much as i normally should, but i do eat.
today, i had lots of pineapple with me - it tastes so refreshing. i also ate some melon.
she looked at me, and said, "Is that all? Where's your carbohydrate?"
She brings in cookies and puts it on my desk in front of me.
I eat alone in her classroom so it is a bit hard..
She also shut/locked the door so i cudnt get out, then she told me to eat it, and that i wont leave "unless i eat it."
She does this everytime now. I understand she might be concerned cos i had a history of anorexica but force-feeding me cookies?!
I ended up throwing it all up in the end.. thats the pineapple and melon down the drain.??
??..

When you think about it, the British version makes sense and the American version gives the opposite meaning to that which it is trying to convey.

Where did this odd phrase come from?
