So far some of your first answers have sucked, sorry. I'm eclectic Pagan with heavy Wiccan leanings. Wiccans DO NOT worship, nor do they believe in satan, that's a Christian thing. We have reverence for the earth and want to protect her, NOT burn it down! We celebrate the God and Goddess, in many forms. There are eight holy days, or sabbats, that we observe. The changes of the seasons, and we usually honor the full moons.

Wicca is a peaceful, accepting religion. Full of love for others, and for self. The foremost 'rule' of Wicca is Harm NONE, do what ye will.

)o( Blessed Be!

There's a lot of different Wiccan sects... I mean she could be anything to from an ultra-fluffy to a hard-Gard. Wiccans are polytheistic, though sometimes pantheonistic. There aren't really any holy book type things that we have, but we have the Rede and the Law of Three, those are the two biggies. If you combine them together, they basically state that you can do what you want if it doesn't hurt anything, but you should take caution if you do, because of karma.

Wicca is pretty much based on established pagan traditions and beliefs. It's not an ancient religion; it was founded about 60 years ago.

Wicca is like Baskin Robbins... there's so many different varieties to pick from, you could stand there all night and never pick one.

Many Wiccans worship a pantheon/god/ goddess of their choice, and others do not. Some Wiccans practice magic, and some do not. Some Wiccans choose to spell magic funky and stick a 'k' on the end of it. And some do not. Some dress in witch robes, and some do not. The list of differences is endless!

But pretty much all Wiccans can agree on one thing, our Rede: Do whatever your little heart desires as long as you don't hurt anyone in the process.

Oh, yes, and forget the stuff about demons and Satan. That's just plain silly.

Prairiecrow was by far your best and most concise answer. I would like to add that many younger people are attracted to Wicca because they feel it's cool to frighten or annoy their parents, the school or to just stand out from the crowd. Well thats fine at first but unlike other religions where you are expected to believe because of the words some PERSON wrote in a book, Wicca requires you to open your eyes and ears and look and listen to the messages from the God and Goddess that are sent to you from all the natural life of the world around you. Unlike words written and changed by humans, the true spirit of the Gods comes through when you find yourself in a beautiful and quiet location and just LISTEN and look around you. All of these sights and sounds are messages to you. If you allow yourself to do this, soon you will discover that you are part of it all and you'll begin to understand Wicca. Bright Blessings

Although I am not Wiccan, I do know a few things. Wiccans generally have a respect for Nature and are considered to be one of the Pagan religions.

You can learn more from various websites. http://www.witchvox.com is one of the better known ones.

Wiccan, Wiccan, who ate the Wiccan? Ollie ollie oxen free! All hands on deck!

Dahling, plenty of people call themselves Wiccan and maybe they share any of the above characteristics, and maybe they don't. Want the best answer about your friend? Go ask HER what she believes. I am not willing to put fluffy meaningless definitions on anyone without their permission. None of the above accurately defines ME, so I refuse to agree that they are accurate about your friend either. :-P

Wiccans believe in an Earth Goddess/ Sun God, and sometimes whole pantheons of Gods/Goddesses. They revere nature and practice sympathetic magick. There's a wide array of beliefs and practices, though. Why don't you just ask your friend? Also, there's tons of sites and books. Google it.

Since you asked... :-)

Wicca is a very complex faith which embraces widely varying practices and many different Traditions. The following, however, is what I consider to be "the basics".

Wicca is about 60 years old, with roots in Masonic practices, ceremonial magic, and the Romantic era's ideas of classical religions. Its founder was a British civil servant named Gerald Gardner.

http://www.geraldgardner.com/essays.php

It is in many ways a postmodern faith, embracing religious relativism, and one that resonates powerfully for increasing numbers of people.

The central tenet of the Wiccan religion is the Wiccan Rede: "If you harm none, do what you will." This is a deceptively simple "commandment" which can take a lifetime to contemplate and to master. Many Wiccans also believe in the Law of Threefold Return, sometimes called the Rule of Three: “Whatever you do, for good or ill, will come back upon you three times over.”

Wiccans honor Deity as both male and female, God and Goddess -- or at the very least as Goddess. Many Wiccans believe that the universe is the body of God/dess, and therefore that all things contain Divine energy and that the world itself is sacred. Some Wiccans are polytheists (many God/desses); others are duotheists (God and Goddess, of whom all other Gods and Goddesses are simply aspects); others are monotheists (God and Goddess Themselves are simply aspects of an unknowable Source).

Wiccans generally do not believe that God/dess is separate from the world; therefore, we have no concept of salvation, since God/dess is present to all and always. Many Wiccans believe that God/dess is too big to fit inside one religion -- all religions/spiritual paths are ways of reaching the same goal, and atheism and agnosticism are honorable perspectives on the mystery of life.

Each Wiccan operates as their own priest/ess. We do not have a distinction between clergy and laity. Therefore, each Wiccan is responsible for their own personal development and for forging their own relationship with God/dess. Some Wiccans practice in covens, which are generally initiatory and require a long period of study (traditionally a year and a day) before entering. Others practice in loosely affiliated groups of solitaries, which are Wiccans who practice outside of traditional coven structure. Others simply practice alone.

Wiccans do not usually have churches. We create sacred space as and where needed, by casting "circles" of energy which function as temples. When inside those circles, we invite the spirits of the four Platonic elements (air, fire, water, and earth) to join us, as well as the Goddess and the God (or at minimum the Goddess).

Wiccans have celebrations which are timed to both the solar and lunar calendars. The solar festivals -- held at the solstices, the equinoxes, and four points in between them -- are called sabbats.

http://paganwiccan.about.com/library/basics/blsabbats.htm

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wheel_of_the_year

The lunar holy days are called esbats, and are held at the full moon each month, and sometimes at the new moon as well.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esbat

Many Wiccans practice witchcraft, which we see as working with the Divine energy that permeates the world to bring about change. In accordance with the Wiccan Rede, the vast majority of Wiccans will not curse or perform magic to bring harm upon anyone else.

A relatively objective (non-Wiccan) set of articles on what Wiccans do and believe:

A good site by Wiccans:

And the US Army Chaplains Handbook excerpt on Wicca:

If you're looking to do some reading, I'd recommend "Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner" by Scott Cunningham, and "The Triumph of the Moon" by Ronald Hutton. I advise you to stay away from anything by Silver Ravenwolf, for reasons outlined in the following essay:
