When the Olmecs arrived on the continent (or started their civilization) at about the same time as the Jaredites and vanished from the Earth at about the same time as the Jaredites.
This is a huge correlation of time from a people that were not discovered until after Joseph Smith died.
Just curious

This is definitely not LDS church doctrine -- but I (for 1) believe it to be true, yet sadly I have no proof.

Thanks for the website -- it also is not proof -- but you are correct -- this is a believable correlation

Lokie, I'm uncertain if the LDS Church has taken a stance that the Olmecs are the same as the Jaredites. It is possible, however, and one not to discount.

Judging by some sculpted personages of what the Olmecs could have looked like, I would say that the Olmecs are not the Jaredites, but I am no archaologist either.

Really sounds like they could be. But not enough info to say 100% sure. Gonna have to ask The Brother of Jared. Where is he when you need him? :)

Anyway down in that area of the world they have started finding lots of clues that point to the possibility of the BoM. My sister is in training to be an archeologist and really wants to go down there for a semester or two. And my sis is a self proclaimed non believer. Not quite an athiest but doesn't believe in any religion.

Well I don't know if they are or not. I don't have enough information to form an opinion on it.
