“The president of the United States has claimed, on more than one occasion, to be in dialogue with God. If he said that he was talking to God through his hairdryer, this would precipitate a national emergency. I fail to see how the addition of a hairdryer makes the claim more ridiculous or offensive.”

1. What do people here think of people who claim God speaks to them?

I need to fast but I actually need someone to tell me what exactly do you do?
I have been on a major 2.5 day fast no food no water before.But I want to go on a 40 day fast for spiritual cleansing so i obvoius;ly need something that will relatively affect me nd make me realise that I am on a fast, but I also still require alot of energy.Giving up chocolate and sodas is not sign ificant enough for me.Please share with me what you christians who have fasted that long have done? Africa is the richest continet in the world regarding natural resources, spiritual wealth, hospitality and wisdom. But it has become (by design) home to the poorest peole in the world in terms of financial wealth. In the long run is it more important to stand on a foundation of paper money or natural riches? Or is it better to make friends around the world so you could have a share of whatever the other has got?

You can look these up if you want
1. Mark 16:5 states that " As they entered the tomb they saw a young man,dressed in a white robe,sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed.
Mark 16:8 " So they went out and fled from the tomb, for terror and amazement had seized them; and they said NOTHING to anyone for they were afraid.
Then In Mark 16:9 it indicates that they only told them after Jesus appeared to mary first.

2. Luke 24:4 While they were perplexed about this,suddenly 2 men in dazzling clothes stood beside them.
Luke 24:8-9 " Then they remembered his words and returning from the tomb, they told all this to the eleven and to all the rest.

How come both the stories don't match? I know that they are slight differences but when it comes to the resurrection story. The difference between 1 person in the tomb and 2 can be huge!

So Why out of the 30 odd original Gospels did the Holy Roman Church only include the 4 Gospels Mathew, Mark, Luke & John in the official version ? 26 others declared Heritical ? including that of Judas. Then these 4 translated through various languages and doctored over the ages to suit political ends. One of the latest theories I have heard is that Judas was a hero rather than a traitor and was castigated by an early bishop for political expediency.It took Christians over a hundred years to write down anything that Jesus said or did so no wonder it is like a game of "Whispers" when it comes down to the veracity of the Bible.
Beats me how people can take it so literally !
One or two nice ideas on living a good life, but thats it as far as I am concerned.

Anyway, I digress so back to the question. What about the Gnostic Gospels? Could it be they contained something to hide?

The religious claim that their gods love them, and put great emphasis on this love. But do we need to be loved? Isn't love just an animal survival instinct? How much more satisfying is it to be liked by others rather than instinctly loved?

As a mother, grandmother, wife, sister and friend, I would prefer to be liked than loved.

How many of the religious believe that their god likes them?
