i fast more than a two thirds of a year. this is what i do fo 40 days fast. you know how i know fasting does you good? because since i do running, and u no how that its not so good for them to fast? well i didnt listen to that and i got 1st place in 2km running. there is also fasting calendars that you can get from a church/internet that tell you wat you cant eat on that day.:

*im not catholic but im orthodox. sorry if i cant help you.

the fast that you say with no food/water (or with holy water/ holy bread) is very good as long if youre praying a long with it like, lord have mercy all the time. and its easier to do while youre by yourself.

40 days
-no dairy products
-the day before i have holy communion, i dont have oil from the afternoon until after i have communion
-since im only 13 my mom allows me oil.

througout the year i fast on wednesdays and fridays again with oil do to my age.

lets say ive been fasting for 40 days and on the feast day its either a wednesday or friday. i cant have meat on that day because its a wednesday or friday, so i have fish.

fasting includes trying not to break the ten commandments. and no bad thoughts. Yoga is breaking the ten commandments due to the fact that if you empty your mind it is a highway for demons to enter and make you have bad thoughts.

God be with you!!!

Fasting is certainly Biblical .... and there are many kinds of fast with each for a specific purpose. Isn't it Isa 58:6 a good verse to follow. Before we attempt any fast, we must know 100% that it is the Lord calling us to do this. And I've always heard that one should check with a doctor just in case there are any medical reasons one should not do this. Our bodies do need liquids .... food we can manage without for much longer ... but liquids are crucial for life. Then again, IF the Lord has called an individual to fast, He will enable him / her to do it.
I understand that when our pastor went on a 40 day fast, he still had liquids.

Depend on what will you fasting for?

Isaiah
58:4 Your fasting makes you violent, and you quarrel and fight. Do you think this kind of fasting will make me listen to your prayers?
58:5 When you fast, you make yourselves suffer; you bow your heads low like a blade of grass and spread out sackcloth and ashes to lie on. Is that what you call fasting? Do you think I will be pleased with that?
58:6 "The kind of fasting I want is this: Remove the chains of oppression and the yoke of injustice, and let the oppressed go free

It means Fasting not always meaning not eating, When you on diet you wont eat for view hours.

btw what do you mean by spiritual cleansing?

Some organized religions have times of fasting that are (i assume) observed by followers. So it is a current event, not something in dusty old books. Personally, i have used fasting for health reasons, but only a few times, ditto for religious reasons but not at any appointed time by a church.

Statistics show that the body will live for 21 days without water, and just 14 without food.
In nursing homes they shut off all food and water to terminate certain patients.
Certain people have gone longer, but the above is average.

Biblicaly it's good for a person to fast once in a while. But a couple of days is sufficient to accomplish a good one.
Maintain your water intake while not eating for a flush.

Fasting is something that should be done carefully. It is permissible to drink water and to take necessary medications. if you have a medical condition, you should consult a physician. Speak with someone who has done a fast or who has more specific information. You must drink water since your major organs need it. You don't want to end up in the hospital with dehydration. Be careful since you can do serious harm to your body if you fast incorrectly. Please consult someone with experience before you continue.

Since when did giving up chocolate and soda constitute a fast??

And why do you want to kill yourself (or create serious harm to yourself) by fasting anyway? Is it 'god's will'?

A very sceptical atheist
