I've never been to a Methodist church, and I attend a non-denominational church which I really love and enjoy, but I will be attending a spiritual retreat that is put on by the Methodist church in October. This question in no way has anything to do with that retreat, but so many Methodists say "Oh, I used to be a Catholic - being Methodist is like that only more relaxed."

What's more relaxed about it? What are the main differences and what are some of the similarities?

Just this year I've bought an iPod (use it on the treadmill and going to sleep) a plasma screen television, and a Global Positioning System for my car. OH, and the aforementioned treadmill, which tells me my speed and pulse as I trot along ! How on earth did we all survive without these high-tech gadgets ? Do you love 'em.....or hate 'em ?

Do you think some of the sins of today will not still be considered sins in the distant future?
And yes I'm sure the big one's will always be there but
I ask this because at one time it was a sin to eat meat on a Friday.

I don't want to be rude, or make anyone uncomfortable, but I don't want to walk around following everyone with a dustpan either. What is the best way to let our party guests know about our "no shoes" policy, without being a nuisance?

This is exactly why we dislike the nonsense people post here on a regular basis.

One Midwestern flight was cancelled because a passenger found Arabic-style lettering (which was actually Farsi) inside the in-flight magazine.

A second flight was more recently cancelled because a passenger heard some other men speaking Arabic and complained about it. As it turns out, the group of men were visiting from Iraq to train US soldiers before going to Iraq themselves.

Is all the paranoia really worth it? I ask because so far all any paranoid non-Muslim has done is delay flights. The real successes come from great undercover work or other Muslims who turn to authorities when they feel something's suspicious. How would you feel if you were on either of those flights? Do you think it would be a legitimate reason for a cancellation or delay? And what type of role do you think misconceptions, stereotypes, and anti-Islamic rhetoric play on people's paranioa?

It says in Ephesians 2:19-22 that the church of God was built upon apostles and prohpets, if catholics are the true church, why don't they have apostles and prophets. Because god is "the same yesterday, today and forever" His church today then would also require having these apostles and prophets. Why don't catholics have them? And how can they be the true church of god without them?

I posted it in Poetry also, but because of its subject matter, I want to share it with you guys too. Is the meaning unclear? It needs a good amount of revision still. Thanks...

When she died, I waited for you.
At her funeral, we waited together
her in her black shiny coffin
and me in my rickety white chair.
The pastor seemed to be expecting you
so even when we sunk her into the earth,
I waited for you.

It has been eight months.
Anger packed its bags yesterday
and slipped away into the clarity of night.
I keep my biggest epiphany
hidden in a dusty old jar
in a cupboard, in the dark.
Today is the day I've been saving it for.

Please provide your evidence. I wish to know. Yes I will research it. Yes I will listen.

However, if your answer is thermodynamics then please move along you don't understand thermodynamics. If your answer is something about god said X then please move along as that is not evidence. If your answer is statistically unlikely hood then please explain why people win the lottery.

I request kindly that anyone who believes doesn't answer this. I want the silence to be deafening.

Not for atheists to come and make fun of us! Just asking: Why are you atheists ruining everything Christians/other religions have to talk about?

My mothers' father was the first to have a car and a television in their area. I had many relatives who lived in the country with out houses. Everyone did have electricity. Quite few in the mountains had only radios. I have known one family with 5 sons who lived up a mountain with no electricity or plumbing. And this was only 30 years ago. My grandmother had her bathroom on the back porch as it was added before I was born. I helped use a wringer washing machine but it was electric. I remember the first electric sewing machine before that we should a treadle machine and our first color tv. My uncle was a traveling pastor and parishioners invited us to Sunday dinner. Ny friend told me they bought toilet paper as a special tribute cause the preacher was coming. Otherwise they used catalogs. This wasn't all poverty it was just the times. I am very interested inothers memories and if/how they vary from one part of the country/world compared to the south.

I was assaulted in an empty parking lot. The came out of no where and shoved me into the back seat of my own car. He had a knife, which he used to make me stop fighting him...and he groped me. Broke my bra straps to get to me and also penetrated me with his fingers/hand. It was really painful and I have tearing down there from it. I finally found the courage to set off my car alarm with the beeper on my keychain, and he got scared off before he could actually insert his penis. Was this still rape? I tried to research this kind of scenerio online but I couldn't find much other than "rape is unwilling penetration". Please help - was I raped??

O. K. Here is the deal, I am trying to get back into Christianity and was looking for a church to attend and my neighbor (I live in an apartment building) asked me to go to Fellowship Bible Church with her for this coming Sunday. I haven't yet agreed to go; haven't disagreed either, but today she wanted to get me caught up in bible study, so I went to her house and we read the first 3 chapters in the book of John. Her husband said that he was baptized as a baby and he felt that was good and that he didn't need to be baptized again. I just kept an open mind; not really sure what to think. I too, was baptized in Lutheran Church as a baby and was confirmed at 14. Well, his wife said that infant baptism does not count because you are not aware of the significance of this choice. Again, I just kept an open mind and closed mouth. Well, then I couldn't stand it anymore so I asked, "What happens to babies that die suddenly and were not yet baptized?"
