Paul and the other New Testament writers, expects the end to come soon. "The time is short." So there's no time for sex and marriage since the world will be ending soon.

1 Corinthians 7

----"I would that all men were even as I myself. ... But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn."

Paul recommends that all men and woman would abstain from sex. But those who can't control themselves should get married, for "it is better to marry than to burn."

-----"It is good for a man not to touch a woman."

Paul would prefer that no one marry. But he says "to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife.

He was obviously SO WRONG and yet now his words are given equal strength to the Word of God.

Paul and other authors were wrong to think Jesus would return in their lifetime and Christians say they were divinely inspired ?

"Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom." -- Matthew16:28

"But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God." -- Luke 9:27

"Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done." -- New Testament

Psalm 109:6
KJV Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand.
NIV Appoint an evil man to oppose him; let an accuser stand at his right hand.

Luke 4:8
KJV And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
NIV Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.'"

What did he do to deserve that?

I was just told that God's infinite mercy can be found in this passage:

5th Commandment: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love me and keep my commandments. (Exodus 20:5-6)

Isn't that kind of like me saying "If you do what I say, I'll stop beating the crap out of you and killing your children"?

Hello, all:

I'm curious about what other Neo-Pagans consider to be sacred writings, or at least commonly accepted liturgy within their chosen path? For myself, the Charge of the Goddess and the Charge of the God (Wiccan) are the only pieces of liturgy that I use consistently. While I may advise beginners to read certain authors or books, I do not consider any Wiccan writings to be "gospel" in the Christian sense; to me, what is sacred is contained in nature and the world around us, and the lessons are there for anyone to read.

As always, thanks in advance to all who take the time to respond.

Are there some bits that you think are symbolic.
Do you think God asked people to sacrifice there child on an altar, or asked for the sacking of citys because they didnt believe in him. (old testament)

If you do, who decides which parts really happened.

I am a Roman Catholic, and I do not take the bible literally, I just want to know if any one does.

SOmeone was standing on Wallstreet and Broadway today in front of Trinity church dressed as an orthodox priest and having a flashing light on his belt and a big cross

He had a sign that said The ACLU (in black) JEWS ( in red) ARE ANTICHRIST
with no explaination or specifics or suggestions for change. People tried to talk to him and he just made karate type movements with his "crucifix"

He also had kinda an evil insensative smile and made no attempt to actually talk to people who tried to talk to him although he threatened to call the police or sue some people if they tried to touch him... odd thing to say for a priest... not odd for a lawyer dressed as a priest?

I don't see any possible good coming form what he did... do you
