What was the single turning point that changed your mind and showed you that JWs hold the truth? Just one thing please, I don't need novels and advertisements for the Watchtower.

Loo at, for example, the money ... the money isn't neutral, it has one-sided religious propaganda only (only since the 1950s, mind you)

This is but one example, symbolic of the bigger overall paradigm of theists trying to culturally shape this place for everyone, or at least just for themselves w/o regard to anyone else

It seems to me that they should be ashamed of themselves for worshipping a god who presides over such horror in the world.

Clearly it's futile to argue that a god who is omniscient and omnipotent is somehow not responsible for what happens in the universe that he designed and created, so that won't wash.

If such a god existed he would necessarily be either uncaring or malevolent. Why praise and worship a character who would have to be at best amoral and at worst supremely immoral?

I am accepting atheism as a religion to which one may leave or join.

I'm a Catholic, and I think I'd become a Unitarian or a Pagan.

2004 update
George Barna noted that one reason why the divorce statistic among non-Born again adults is not higher is that a larger proportion of that group cohabits, effectively side-stepping marriage - and divorce - altogether. "Among born again adults, 80% have been married, compared to just 69% among the non-born again segment. If the non-born again population were to marry at the same rate as the born again group, it is likely that their divorce statistic would be roughly 38% - marginally higher than that among the born again group, but still surprisingly similar in magnitude."

the majority in this "democracy" (a group diametrically opposed to your lifestyle) attempted to passively and subtly make its culture the official culture for you, even you you'd already made it clear you were happy with your own ...

Remember, it's a "democracy", so you don't have to engage in that "when in Rome" mentality .... yet your neighbors don't uphold this aspect of "democracy", they take it as a vehicle to institute "official" culture and religion ...

How would you feel? Would you accept it, in a democracy?

I've often heard that God made himself in man's image (sorry if I'm paraphrasing that, but I'm pretty sure I'm getting the message across accurately). This is something I have never understood.

If God is all powerful, why chose the human body when there are so many other possibilities, especially those than transcend human comprehension?

Yes, yes, Atheists, I know you believe God does not exist, so the point, to you, is moot. I'm honestly trying to find an answer to this question.

Christians: please avoid Bible quotations if you can. I do not follow the word of the Bible, and it has very little influence over me.

Thanks all!

So I was reading Leviticus today and came across the Lev. 25:44 which state we may own slaves as long as they are from bordering nations. Now, does this include Cuba? They are very nearby and I feel I cannot buy my slaves cheap enough from Mexico or Canada. Also, if we occupy a foreign nation, are we able to enslave people bordering the nation we occupied?

Please help, I need to have a fence put in and don't want to have to pay people by the hour.

My sister and a friend both do not like it when their parents take them down to the altar call to pray (for their wrong doings). I know my parents and my friends parents mean well... and I do not see whats wrong with it. I do see the altar as being a place to give Christ your problems and sins and it really is a personal thing. I believe that you can go to the altar to pray for someone and they do not have to be with you. An altar call to me should be a calling not a forceful thing. I just would like to have someone elses opinion on this. BTW, my sister and my friend hold a lot of resentment in their hearts. Could being forced to go to the altar fire it up more? Thanks, Hannah
