Actually god chose Abraham as the Father of Faith on this planet, so all the children of faith are his children spiritually speaking, God rejected the Jews at Calvary so that other people that were not Jews could be saved. So to say they are God's chosen people is not exactly correct, he chose the Jews to be an example as a Nation of how America should not follow their example and disbelieve the promises God giving us in the Bible and did not enter into the promise land as a result of unbelief; Only Joshua and Caleb entered from that generation and everybody from 20 years and up had to die before Israel could enter the promise land. Today we are about at the same place where God will reject America and go back to dealing with only the 144,000 Jews in Israel. And the rest of the world will go to hell in a handbasket including America.

The Bible says that God told the Jews that He chose them because they were the least of all the people, not be cause they were more righteous than anyone else. In other words He chose them so that the rest of the world could recognize that something special must be happening in that people for them to thrive and survive with all of these larger and more powerful tribes around them. It's a principal that continues even into the New Testament where God doesn't choose to save many wise or powerful people so that the rest of the world can get a clue that it isn't the people who are the big deal but the God that they serve.
1 Corinthians 1:26 For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; 28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, 29 so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.
Deuteronomy 7:6 "For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth. 7 It was not because you were more in number than any other people that the LORD set his love on you and chose you, for you were the fewest of all peoples, 8 but it is because the LORD loves you and is keeping the oath that he swore to your fathers, that the LORD has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

The promise to Abraham that all the families of the earth would bless themselves in his “seed” could not have included all of Abraham’s offspring as his “seed,” since the offspring of his son Ishmael and also those of his sons by Keturah were not used to bless humankind. The seed of blessing was through Isaac. “It is by means of Isaac that what will be called your seed will be,” said Jehovah. (Ge 21:12; Heb 11:18) This promise was subsequently narrowed down yet more when, of Isaac’s two sons Jacob and Esau, Jacob was specially blessed. (Ge 25:23, 31-34; 27:18-29, 37; 28:14) Further, Jacob limited the matter by showing that the gathering of the people would be to Shiloh (meaning “He Whose It Is; He To Whom It Belongs”) of the tribe of Judah. (Ge 49:10) Then, of all Judah, the coming seed was restricted to the line of David. (2Sa 7:12-16) This narrowing down was noted by the Jews in the first century C.E., who actually looked for one person to come as the Messiah or Christ, as deliverer (Joh 1:25; 7:41, 42), even though they also thought that they, as Abraham’s offspring, or seed, would be the favored people and, as such, God’s children.—Joh 8:39-41.

God chose the Jews to teach others, not as people think. It is a burden, it is like a father or a mother telling the older son to take care of his young brothers and sisters.

Normally i would never answer about the Intentions of God, but in this case the answer seems to be simple.
Jesus was born in a filthy barn. He was a carpender (on of the poorest jobs). He was extremely poor.
Basically throughout the Bible God hates riches and powerful (who use power and wealth to oppress).
The jews where slaves.
I would be very suprized if God did not choose slaves to carry His message.

Don't ask because god is smarter than you. Joking aside, I think the reason is the fact that jews look awkward, but are in fact very capable individuals. There are few human races that are so capable and yet look so pathetic. What better way to show god's greatness, than choosing them, and developing their inner capabilities, to turn them into powerful man and woman. No wonder they are at the financial top nowadays.

Cause the Jews wrote the old testament, just like the Christians wrote the new testament the way they wanted it.
