I've often heard that God made himself in man's image (sorry if I'm paraphrasing that, but I'm pretty sure I'm getting the message across accurately). This is something I have never understood.
If God is all powerful, why chose the human body when there are so many other possibilities, especially those than transcend human comprehension?
Yes, yes, Atheists, I know you believe God does not exist, so the point, to you, is moot. I'm honestly trying to find an answer to this question.
Christians: please avoid Bible quotations if you can. I do not follow the word of the Bible, and it has very little influence over me.
Thanks all!

OK, so I got it wrong . . . but it sounds like my question still applies.
And it isn't very nice to tell me not to quote the Bible if I don't believe in it. I'm seeking answers to my personal beliefs. I seek that through logic. I'm using logic to understand the Christian belief. If those two don't gel, I'll know that Christianity is not the path for me.

I've re-asked the question for those of you who pointed out the technical discrepancy. Now I can get answers that get to the question!

Ummm, no. God made man in His image, not the other way around lol. Btw, image does not refer to our bodies but our souls.

This is actually a good question. I believe that the product, a human being was not flawed. He and she were just corrupted by choice. A bad choice.
The image of God is not that we are equal with God, No no. That simply means that we know right from wrong. We really do. We just do not give a credit to God easily, especially if we do not believe in One.
We are here for God's purposes. We really did not have a choice about our visit here, but we have one very important choice to make what comes to the time after this.
When Jesus was here her was fully human and fully God. Even when He was a human, He was perfect. He did exactly what He came to do. We should do the same, we do not have to do everybody's job.You just need to do the job God gave for you to do. You are smart. You will figure it out.

First, the Bible says that God made man in his image, not the other way around. It is philosophers that have claimed that man has made God in our image.
Second, the only place in the Bible where God takes human form is in the life of Christ, and if you don't follow the word of the Bible, why are you even asking the question?
But, let me try to couch an answer in terms you will accept. First, God loves the world - he created it. That includes humanity. Humanity has a unique place in creation, the best evidence of it is in art - have monkeys created a play to equal Shakespeare's tragedies? (infinite monkeys on typewriters notwithstanding) God desired to teach mankind by example, to give a model to base our lives upon, and did it in the person of Jesus (whether you believe it or not). In order for that to be real, Jesus had to be limited to the substance of humanity.

Man was made in God's image not the other way around and it's not a physical thing either. We have similar characteristics like the ability to judge, to cry and to feel joy but He does not have the same nature as we do. He is holy and righteous. While we ahave a sinful nature that's were we differ. Also, we were once perfect.

I cant seem to remember the Bible saying that man's BODY was flawed as much as his soul. Only the way man acts is wrong, not what he looks like, however there are SOME people I can think of...
It could also be evidence of evolution. man kind no longer looks like whatever God looks like so we must have evolved.

He came in a human body because he was going to die for the sins of humans, if he were going to die for the sins of a grizzly bear he would have come as a bear, or an ant. He could not die for humanity anf fufill the the requirements of the law if he had been manifested in other form but human.

Because he came to Earth to show that even though in human form, he can still stray away from things that tempt us as humans. He too was faced wth temptation and hedecided to do the right thing. Jesus also came to deliver us from our sins. He was the ultimate sacrifice for us all. AFter dying on the cross for all of mankind past present and future, making animal sacrifices was no longer needed because he was the sacrifical lamb and cleansed all of their sins. plus it was for the sins of HUMANS not animals (plus animals and everything else was born without sin and souls unlike humans)

I'm not Christian anymore, but I believe the idea is that God created us in innocence, like it is. The problem is that we aren't perfect, so when we ate from the tree, we gained knowledge and had no idea what to do with it.

If you don't follow Bible quotations, then don't quote the Bible. The verse you have misquoted is about God creating man in HIS image, not the other way around.
