Genesis 5:1 When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God. (2) He created them male and female; at the time they were created, he blessed them and called them "man."

(3) When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth.

The verse of concern is Genesis 5:3. What does it mean that Adam had a son is his own image? It seems to be saying that Seth was in Adam's image, as opposed to God's. It's as if it is putting the two in contrast right there. I don't recall that it said that Cain or Abel were in Adam's image.

What exactly does this mean? I really appreciate everyone's help with my questions. I'm trying to study and understand the Bible on my own and forget everything I've been told is true by people. I'm trying to read everything as if for the first time and come up with my own understanding. It's not working so well. I'm having some trouble and appreciate everyone answering my questions all the time.

I have read quite a few stories of demons that did good things, and it's hard for me to understand why they are called "demons." I come from a Western background, so in my thinking, demons have always been considered all-bad. But this does not seem to be the case in Hinduism.

I'd like to understand this better. Is there a good website or book on the subject? Can you offer an explanation?

Thanks!

Man should have started talking long after he appeared on this earth. But the first book of Mosses ,Genesis found in the Bible says that god said, let there be light , let there be earth , let there be man etc .That means that god talked even before world appeard .That is long before the Big Bang . Mosses did not report god as sayng let there be a Big Bang . All scientists agree that there shoud have been a Big Bang and common sense also tells us that no creature could have been created in a jiffy like magic .Does it ment that the Genesis is a figment of the imagination of Mosses at level of intelligence that existed at his time ?.Could God have talked even before man began to talk and understand ? Was Mosses present when god said all these and created the world and all
things?
How could man have understood whatever god talked , even at the moment of creating man and what language did he talk and if god talked one language how is that we have thousands of languages now ?

Israel seems to hold a special significance for you guys. From what I understand, Israel looms large in your bible's predictions concerning the end of the world. My question is, do fundamentalists and evangelicals vote with Israel in mind? And if so, why? If the Christian bible is true, Armageddon's gonna happen anyway - right? Why the push (via votes) to help it along? Why shouldn't we have a fair foreign policy as applies to the Middle East?

Could it be that you are looking to bolster your beliefs by causing the 'fulfillment' of your bible's 'prophecies'?

Okay here's a crazy question. If you were a dragon and you had as many caves as you want what would some of the rooms be called? Other than the treasure room, kitchen and library as those as standard for all dragon homes. (I know totally weird question but humor me.) What would you call some of the rooms? And there's no wrong answer. I'm just curious what you think. :)

Many times I see comments such as "Why do you hate God" or "All atheists are angry".
Just because we disagree with your view doesn't make us full of anger and hate.
Yes some atheists post nasty comments but so do people from all groups but at the end of the day,we don't feel hate or anger for something we don't believe exists.

So, Joseph Smith claims that he was visited(in person or by vision, I am not sure which) by God the Father, and by Jesus Christ, and told not to join any church... and eventually he was instructed to form a church. If you believed that God and Jesus, or GodJesus for those of you who think they are one, or Allah, or Jehova, or whoever your supreem being is, directed you to found a church instead of Joseph Smith, would you have done it? and Would you do it now , knowing that Joseph Smith was killed for it? (assuming of course that you Joseph Smith was killed for being the Prophet of the Mormon Church and not for some other reason, like treason say.)
The question is not if you believe Joseph Smith, or that the Mormon Church is "the only true and living church in which I am well pleased".

So why do I feel that God is so disappointed with me right now? I haven't done anything that I am ashamed of, God has done nothing that I feel anger or disillusionment about. Yet tonight I feel he isn't happy with me. Why am I feeling this way.

It seems many christains accept with blind faith the teaching of ministers or those who chose how to put the bible together.Do you think it is important for a person to take responsibility for their salvation and to explore the basis of their religion. For me the more I explore christianity the less I believe in it.I do not deny there is a god I just believe there is no way for me to find the truth about who god is till I die.I have researched the bible and how it was formed in 300 ad and I have started reading the nag hammadi(gnostic beliefs)They are the oldest books of early christianity pre bible. The more I look the more danger I see in organized religion. What do you think.
