If you've made a career out of saving animals' lives, why would you want to go kill them for fun on your days off?
Maybe it's more of a Texas thing? Are they like that everywhere?

yes, it isn't always about saving everythings life. Those who work with food animals are interested in keeping the whole herd healthy not just one animal. They want to keep those animals healthy, so that they gain weight well and can go off to market as "safe to eat" food. Some veterinarians sit in an officre and review public health policy. Some veterinarians conduct research that will lead to medications to save human lives, killing lab animals in the process. Not every vet works to keep fluffy and fido alive. Besides deer and other hunted animals are overpopulated. No one will care if a few are removed from the population. Humans encroachment on natural habitates is another discussion.

It's not a career of saving animal lives, it's a career of knowing how animals work. You can use that knowledge to heal or harm

I also doubt that anybody keeps deer as pets.
