Sorry, I'm not a "Redneck", My neck is tanned nicely and I have some class, not @ss. Not Red and plenty of @ss. I don;t understand why anyone would want to be called such a low life slang as such.

Ignorance. I don't think its cool at all. Just like when blacks call themselves the N word is not cool either. But cant you just see the double standard in some of these responses. "Its about pride" or this or that. If you would have asked about the N word they would have been asking why couldn't they say it. But in this case redneck means pride. Yeah right.

You've been misinformed as to the nature of the redneck,
Redneck is synonymous with the working class joe

We might not have amy Cadillacs, we might not care what happens to Paris Hilton, and no we don't vote liberal
We love are wives and young 'ens, and we drive Ford, we work hard, and expect others too.
We've sang Garth Brooks "I've got friends in low places" more times than we can count

The reason my neck is red isn't because I work outdoors. It's because I love a cold budwieser half as much as I love America
If you want to a grab a beer and watch the game c'mon on over, because renecks know how to treat company.

Remember my neck is red, my truck is white and my coller is blue.
Additionally, unlike certain other groups, anybody can be redneck, regardless of race, sex, or creed. Redneck is a state of mind.

I call myself redneck or hillbilly because I am proud of it. But when used in anger it is a racial slur. I work for a living and when I mean work I mean muscular heavy work not sissy typing on the keyboard in a cubicle all day.

Most rednecks are proud because we have the best land and the best lives. We really dont find cities of concrete and pollution appealing. Besides the people in cities are rude and cant even respect one another.

We enjoy our lifestyle. It brings pride and shows our ethic. I have made my own life. I dont work for someone else and make them rich. I have no involvement in any type of "rat race" because racing to the end of your life makes no sense.

I know cities dont have that kind of pride because people there are not nice to one another. So it would make sense that you do not understand pride.

I found it funny that youre called "I can answer anything", but your asking questions. LOL. Anyway, most people dont understand that there is a HUGE difference between a "redneck" and a "hillbilly". Hillbillies are the ones who live int the mountains and the "hollows" who fry their brains out on their homemade whiskey and get into bestiality and child molestation and inbreeding. They're usually the ones who wear sheets on their heads nad not their beds, too. A "redneck" is NOT an insult, unless you are a prissy racist. The term for the red neck comes from people like farmers and such who work outside and get necks that are red and burned from the sun. You know, the people who basically BUILT this country from the ground up. Yes, they listen to country music and drive p/u trucks and have more than two dogs (usually), but you'll NEVER find a better class of people. They never discriminate, they dont hate, they believe in God and country - very earthy, good hearted people...and they can't STAND hillbillies. Have you ever heard Chris Rock's skit, "Whos more racist, whites or blacks"? He says he loves black people but he hates n*****s? (His words, not mine - you can find the vid on YouTube). Well, its like that. Hillbillies are our n*****s. "Normal people taking offense" is what happens when you are uneducated on society. Take your nose out of the air and try talking to a redneck. You might like them. But the problem is, no one is really aware of the differences because everyone wants to be in their own little worlds. Like the cavemen who threw rocks at the moon...cast dispersions on somthing they dont know/understand. I hope youre not white with this ignorance. I can understand someone from another culture not knowing this, but a WHITE person not knowing all sub-groups of their own race is shameful.

They're proud of their "redneck" heritage, maybe because it's all they've known all their lives. People take pride in things familiar and the lifestyle they were brought up in, as well as the friends and role models they look up to.

I've also heard Redneck referred to as "a farmers tan". People who work hard in the sun like farmers and construction workers often just get their sun burn on their necks and not on their bodies.
Some people are just proud to associated with these "Rednecks".
It can also be a racist term. People who might like to be known as racists might like it.
