Irish people don't celebrate St. Pats. day...Irish/Americans do. It's only a bunch of Fakers and wannabes showing off how "irish" they think they are one day out of the year.Most of these amatures puke or pass out by 5pm anyway,and iv'e seen it happen time and again.ps-i also happen to be an American of Irish heritige,and know for a fact that half the population of Ireland hates Americans anyway.

Actually nearly every Irish person celebrates Paddy's day. I can vouch since I'm from there. I don't believe that most Americans know what it's about though, however I doubt most Irish people really care as it is really only celebrated as a day off work to get really drunk.
The reason it is celebrated in America is due to the the high level of Irish in the country due to the famine in the 1800's and from that there is a strong tie to Ireland via ancestry lines.
It is also our national holiday, much as you guys have Independence day etc. to celebrate your Americanism, we have Paddy's day. It just happens that there are a whole lot of Irish Americans who wish to celebrate that day also!!

St. Patrick drove the snakes out of Ireland. I celebrate it because my husband is 100% Irish. So kiss me I'm Irish by marriage!

Just like Easter is about a large bunny rabbit delivering colored chicken eggs and Christ Mass is about a fat guy who lives at the north pole with a bunch of elves making toys to deliver to children, St. Patrick's Day is about wearing something green or getting pinched, drinking green beer and a big parade in New York City,

dear god no! i believe not. most people don't realize that it is the day of the patron saint of ireland. most think it's just an excuse to pretend to be irish, wear green, and drink green beer.
