Ah, yes - 'christian charity' and 'families are forever' in actual practice in god's wonderful plan of salvation.
If ever there was a grand group of hypocrites, the mormon church is filled to the brim with 'em. This is a form of "Hate", "Family Bashing" and of course "Persecution" which is sure to get them to godhood.
Won't these individuals just be peachy as 'gods?'

All my brothers and sisters were raised in the LDS church. Two of my brothers have decided that it wasn't for them and left. My parents and the rest of us still love them. One still lives at home, and the other visits fairly frequently for living in another country.
It seems your grandma, aunt, and uncles are not handling it well, but try not to judge the church or its teachings on the actions of a few people.
By the way when you say that your mormon friend says this is pure evil is that in regards to your grandma, aunt, and uncles or your mom and sister?
The church is a big supporter of agency. We all have the right and ability to choose our path in life. We just have to live with the consequences of those choices.

Those Mormons are not practicing their own faith.
Christ taught love, not the disowning of family members. The Mormon church believes in free agency.

Yep! That sounds like religious intolerance there! The Mormons are no more immune to that than Christians, Muslims, etc.
Having said that, the Mormon faith has to take the biscuit as the most cleverly contrived religion EVER! And in such a short time span as well. A new faith for a new continent, but not TOO new! And using the Bible as a template. Excellent!
Only in America!

Sadly, this does happen sometimes in the Mormon church. You would think that the family would do the opposite. Shunning family who leave the church is only making people who oppose the church right. That the Mormon church is not a Christian church, that it is a cult.

When I decided not to serve a mission my dad almost kicked me out of the house. My parents are constantly angry and annoyed with my decision not to affiliate with the church. We are polite with each other, but I can tell that they disapprove of me and feel like I some how betrayed them.
To Mormons it is a terrible, terrible sin to lack of a testimony and not be active in there church. It seems that there is no logical reason for not developing or losing your testimony and becoming inactive.
Wait, there is a reason! It must be that you are immature, if you leave, you are a bad person. The devils got a hold of you.
That is the Mormon train of thought

Lots of families will disown other family members for joining the LDS church.
So, don't think that, if this happens, it's only us.
Yes, it's evil, no matter who does it.

At first my family said I was going to hell, but being an atheist and then a christia, i could say the same thing to them to. I live on the otherside of the US, so its kind of hard for them to abandon me, whent he Army took me away from them. Later, they started to ask me to pray for them, when they started to get physically ill, and talk about my atheist brother who found those websites that mormons were not suppose to go to. For the record, it was not the websites that led me away from the church, it was the church itself.
The missionaries, however, never left us alone, I can't get rid of them, I was stupid as an athesit and told them I use to be a mormon, I must have given them my name, they gopt my records from UT, and they send missionaries over every so often. They are after my son now. I am about ready to call the police on them because they cornered my son one day and tried to tell me they were from his church, yea right.
