Why set up the rule that Adam and Eve could eat of every tree but one?

Why create the tree?

(There is a theory that the gods ate from the tree of knowledge and that's how they stayed so smart but man was forbidden from eating it or something to that effect)

Why make the consequence for eating from that tree death?

Did "God" create sin by creating the rule?

Lao Tzu says that when the world sees some things as good this is bad.

Is that how "God" created evil?

In America, non-muslim Americans are gathering in neighborhood groups to protest the construction of Mosques, American Muslims are being shunned, and verbally and physically assaulted. There is so much fear and misrepresentation of Islam in America. As a non-Muslim American, how can i help to change this?

Before racing to reply to any given question, check the asker's previous Q's & A's.

1. If askers have no prior Q's and A's and his/her message is offensive...ignore the asker. ID's created "same day" = alarm bell.

2. If the asker has previous Q's & A's which are distasteful, hateful etc. you may choose to avoid the asker's new questions.

3. Another very good reason to check Q's and A's prior to responding is to try and verify the asker's sincerity. Check profiles (if avail) as well.

CASE: This morning one asker posted a question about handicapped "relations". Based on many replies it's clear that no one realized the "asker" has been confined to a wheechair for many many years. Some of your replies unfortunately were disconcerning to say the least.

NOTE: YA leaves Q's & A's open for a reason. You won't be the 1st to reply to ?'s..but I don't think this board was designed as a race. Perhaps you'll have less interaction with trolls, bigots etc.

I can understand the first few, because basically they just stand there looking cute and helpless, but Belle (from Beauty and the Beast) seems braver, and more independent. (I'm referring to the Disney films, but if you have a comment on the original stories, I would be equally pleased to hear it.)

Why do religious people get so hurt and uptight when anyone challenges their beliefs about God, while atheists remain pretty laid back, and usually don't care when the religious disparrage them? Are atheists more rounded better people because they tend to base their lives in fact, not fiction?

Deleted Question: A metaphor for Y!A perhaps?

Question Details: "Through me is the way into the woeful city; through me is the way into eternal woe; through me is the way among the lost people. Justice moved my lofty maker: the divine Power, the supreme Wisdom and the primal Love made me. Before me were no things created, unless eternal, and I eternal last. Abandon hope, all ye who enter here!"

I noticed while posting it that if you ask a question, and then put Dante's Inferno canto 3 in the Question details box, there are exactly 666 characters left, copy and paste it if you don't believe me.

Reason of Violation:Not a Question or Answer

Did someone have a little trouble getting the metaphor?

I'm watching Dr. Phil right now and it's about a girl who has lived her whole life feeling like a boy inside. She wants to have gender reassignment surgery to allow her outsides to match her insides. Also on The L Word, Moira transitions to Max... anyway, my point is that there are people out there who are really born feeling they are in the wrong body! Just like people are born gay... And I do believe that happens. More and more, gender identity is being brought into public debate. Should medical insurance cover the cost of gender reassignment? and with what pre-requisites? In my opinion it should. Our country is founded on the 'pursuit of happiness' does that quote apply here? I am interested to see what everybody thinks...

The Mythology of heaven and hell suggests hell as a place of fire and heaven as a place of worship. SO- drawing from this information, could it be that god keeps his most devoted followers as pets… and cooks the rest in hell to prepare for edible means? Would that explain why there are so many anachronisms and contradictions in the bible- he wants us to go to hell because to him, we’re delicious?

How can some religions have so many Gods? Why must they make you fear them. Are we so unimportant that if we don't do as they wish they will punish us? Would you damn your child to hell if he disobeyed you? Yes,I know this is more than one question.

I understand that most of the Muslims we hear about are Middle Eastern, but how many people know that there are also a lot of white and black Muslims? After all, there are plenty of white Muslims in the former Yugoslavia, for example. Also, there are lots of black Muslims in Africa and the US. Muslims are a religious group, not a racial one.

Consider this. If you have 2 objects in front of you and are about to pick one up. Does god know which one you will pick up? (If no he isn't omniscient. If yes continue) Now is it possible to pick up the other object (not the one god knows you will pick up the other one) and so surprise god and make him wrong? If yes he isn't omniscient If no we don't have free will and you need to start looking for another excuse as to why there is pain and suffering in a world supposedly created by a perfect benevolent being.
