But is it actually like that? Catholism also has an image of being very strict and devout but most catholics arent actually like that(i'm catholic). i was just wondering is it the same or different with Islam?

I'm not talking about the teachings of Islam. What i mean is it strictly practised by everday Muslims? A lot of religions might seem very strict in theory but in practise its different. Any Moslem i met (i havent met that many though)seems really nice and easy going but arent very strict about their religon

Being a Devout of Islam religion is very fine. Along with that, if they feel, that there is no danger for their religion from people of other religions and spreading Islam is not the object of that religion and hence Jihad is not necessary, it would be better. In the name of Jihad people should not be killed, if understood by the followers, the tenets of Islam will be respected further by people of other religions.

Salam (Peace),
There are all kinds of Muslims - with varying levels of understanding and perception about Islam. However, one thing is definitely common in all and that is a firm conviction about Oneness of Allah (God) and that Muhammad (peace be upon him) was Allah's messenger. Moreover, a Muslim cannot be a true Muslim unless he or she accepts and beleives in the prophethood of Jesus, Moses, Abraham, Isac, Jacob, Joseph and other biblical prophets.
There are "devout" and "strict" Muslims (I am not sure if there would be any comparison with Catholics) but most learned and practising Muslims are mild mannered, peaceful, constructive and comapssionate. It is not very intelligent to label 1.2 billion Muslims of the world as "Mindless" - statistically there would be many genius and hyper-intelligent people in such a large group. I can tell you that most learned Muslims are only muslims by rational choice. One indicator of this fact is that many westerners (who are more inclined towards logic and reason) are accepting Islam and inspiring many others on the way. You may want to see and hear from such "reverts" at:

Many people continue to make the mistake of holding Islam responsible for the actions of people.
Instead of holding the educators who teach the religion in an un ideal manner to those people.
Almost always tho, devoutness in religion cannot be taken over just by educating, its a habit, a personal NEED to be closer to God.
Therefore when you see people who lack sincerity, you see people who have NOT been taught the spiritual aspect of the religion alongside its laws.

Islam has not changed or been corrupted - it doesnt chnage its values to suit the latest trends- so its image as with any other belief is judged by the superficial according to the prevailing , fleeting mores of their present society
for example Islam was 100 years agao considered very sensula becuase it strongly encourages marriage and sexual enjoyment within marriage as well as allowing polygamy - now it is considered sexual repressed in the any thing goes culture we live in -Islam or Muslims havent changed but western society has

Islam is like all other religions. There are those that are very devout and practice their religion the way it should be practiced. Then there are those who say they are a certain religion and only practice what they want. Then of course, there are the extremists who take things too far, distort the doctrine and commit crimes in the name of their religion.

every religion has its own quirks and you feel that its not logical at all, there are fundamentalists and moderates in every religion,be it christianity, islam, hinduismor buddhism...its the fanatics that make a religion so unhealthy. And there is no measure for devoutedness.
