Before racing to reply to any given question, check the asker's previous Q's & A's.

1. If askers have no prior Q's and A's and his/her message is offensive...ignore the asker. ID's created "same day" = alarm bell.

2. If the asker has previous Q's & A's which are distasteful, hateful etc. you may choose to avoid the asker's new questions.

3. Another very good reason to check Q's and A's prior to responding is to try and verify the asker's sincerity. Check profiles (if avail) as well.

CASE: This morning one asker posted a question about handicapped "relations". Based on many replies it's clear that no one realized the "asker" has been confined to a wheechair for many many years. Some of your replies unfortunately were disconcerning to say the least.

NOTE: YA leaves Q's & A's open for a reason. You won't be the 1st to reply to ?'s..but I don't think this board was designed as a race. Perhaps you'll have less interaction with trolls, bigots etc.

Hey Indy...YA did not remove asker's names. They simply put them in very light text under the questions. Hard to see, but there.

I agree. I try to check the asker's profile before answering. The previous questions often have info that helps explain the current question. And often the asker is just a "baiter" who asks the same questions over and over. Often the asker's apparent age (from their profile) determines what kind of answer to give.

But I also often answer "on the fly" because some questions are sincere even if the asker isn't, and a question taken by itself may be something casual "visitors" to this site wonder about. We get the same question over and over about what it means to be gay and what "causes" it, but this isn't a fixed audience, the visitors change hourly and the question may be new to them, so I don't mind answering it as often as it comes up, even if the asker is just being abusive. I once persuaded a user to soften his views and we became friends, of sorts, and that makes it all worth while. I know it seems counter productive, but communication with "trolls, bigots, etc." is the only hope there is for turning them around--just as long as we don't stoop to their level and abuse them back. I know this is an unpopular position, but I believe it's the right one.

I also wish that sincere askers would pay attention to the box that shows similar questions while they're typing theirs--if the question has been asked before, just go to it for the answers.

Actually I do that but only after I read the question, sometimes it make it easier to discern what exactly some are asking especially if the question is a bit ambiguous.
With the new "star" Yahoo seems to have just added you can't see the asker's "name" so purposefully avoiding a particular asker just became harder.
I can, do, and will report ALL intentionally hateful and harassing questions as well as check the answerer's profile and report any similar questions/answers. Those who "troll" have absolutely no place on here and deserve both reports and removal.

It is apparent that YA is more concerned with hits and money than they are with having a useful tool.

Based on that I think it is important for us to hit them in their pocket. We can do this by totally ignoring the harassers and reporting ALL of the violations. This gives them less clicks but more work.

That is what I plan on doing from this point forward.

And if it gets worse I think we should have a day of silence, where we stay away from YA altogether. Have different people post a question every so often voicing our intention and asking for support.

I disagree with you. First, i'm no longer fearful of GLBT human beings. i don't love it even as even as they hit on me and they understand i'm instantly. it truly is in basic terms being disrespectful to me. If i understand a woman i love is lesbian I appreciate that and are not making a bypass on her. it truly is the proper concern to do. I by no ability dry hump something in public or commit any perverted acts in public. I have by no ability developed a clean word to offend gay human beings, those words were there lengthy earlier i became born. and that i do not position self belief in God. for this reason i might want to by no ability inform you that God hates you. Please do not Corral all instantly human beings into one unmarried team. i'm instantly. and that i do not belong to the team you in common words defined. so some distance as i'm in touch. i do not care when you're gay. see you later as you're satisfied and by no ability killing or harming absolutely everyone else. I say "stay and enable stay".

Thanks for the advice. I usually check to see what previous questions they've posted. The haters are usually pretty obvious, but I've seen some questions that seemed innocent, but were posted by haters. What you posted is especially important as there was one person, WHO ELSE LOVES WOMEN I believe, who had a huge problem with someone cloning her and posting hateful stuff.

I think thats very good advice. I would add not to be too cautious / suspicious of sincere sounding new ID's in the event that now and then some are real.

I do this all the time.Even mention that I checked all previous questions also.if the questions get more and more offensive.
But new accounts with one question that start to be a pest already will be ignored, just ramo'ed.

I always check users' previous questions and answers. (except for the people I know, of course) I think we all should do that.

I think that is a very good idea.
