Just out of curiousity, I have a couple questions. No disrespect whatsoever...
-Growing up, were you raised with religion in your life, did you at any point in your life believe in God or a God, or were you raised as an atheist?

-What exactly was the turning point for you? What was it/is it that made/makes you believe in what you do?

-Honestly, do you ever quietly question to yourself "Is there a God?", do YOU ever have doubts in your beliefs? I know I do from time to time.

No, this is not a flame question, just a curiosity question. I have heard this "Christ has died for our sins" and was interested if this is referred to in parts of the Bible (I have read some of it but not all). Anyways, if anyone can give me a non-flame response and just the facts I'd be greatly obliged.

I asked a similar question last night but did not receive many well thought out responses. Hopefully today I will have better luck.

Why didn’t Jesus write his own teachings down?

The New Testaments gives only second accounts of Jesus’ teachings via his disciples. How can we take these teachings as the absolute truth? As the saying goes there are three sides to every story yours, mine, and the truth. How are we to know that the accounts in each gospel are accurate and not embellished or inaccurate recollections?

The bible alludes that Jesus was in fact literate in the following passages:
Luke 4:16-17
“He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read. The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written…”

John 8:6-8

“But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. When they kept on questioning h

I understand him completely what he means by saying he's an "athiest", but at the moment he's feeling down with no motivation, feeling let down by people and life in general. When I feel like this I find for myself I "look for something" you know? I look for inspiration and good feelings that I get from being outside close to nature, listening to certain kinds of music that bring me emotional memories, sitting in a church, etc etc.

I want to show him that he can have some faith or whatever you may call it in something, and it doesn't have to be a religion, but if he wants to sit in a church or wherever he'll still welcome there.

I know him really well, and taking him out places, talking about things etc doesn't help him, I think it would be good for him to have something "else to hold onto", but how can I suggest this to him, how subtly introduce it to him without him getting all ..... anti spirituality/religious etc? Just in a way that will give him something to think about.

When you come to understand everything that Jesus offers to the one who believes in Him it is curious to me why so many reject Him and His teachings. No one else in history has the same credentials. No one else died for our sins and was resurrected, thus proving His power over death and His ability to give that life to others.

Is Mel trying to tell us (great prophet that he is), that sacrifices DONT work, and that they are the hallmark of a degenerate civilization, and that we should not base a religion on the idea of human sacrifice?

Why hellish burning torture for crimes that do not deserve it? Why could he not have given you mild pain for a few days? Seriously. If you tell me the just punishment for ANY crime is hell, then you are evil.

To make sure you are in fact spreading the truth...

Acts 17:11

Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.

So when you see my questions, don't get your feathers ruffled. Search the scriptures and answer with truth that you found, not something you heard from someone else.

I think there is a lack of serious bible study these days. Bible study is not for theologians, it is for everyone.

I am guilty of this too. That is why I started...

Agree or disagree?
