If speaking in tounges was a gift from God that he gave to men for the purpose of teaching others his word the bible; why do people today "speak in tounges"? there is no need for it. no one can understand them when they do it which defeats Gods purpose for giving the gift. Rather it sounds as if they are posessed by demons instead of filled with holy spirit.

i went to school with a guy that said he spoke in tounges and he had no idea what his ramblings meant. the early christains knew what they were saying!!!

it seems to me that Satan is once again trying to transform himself from an angel of darkness to one of light. making the bad seem good and the good seem bad.

Thomas Jefferson once stated, "Nothing but free argument, raillery and even ridicule will preserve the purity of religion."
Granting, for the sake of discussion, that Christians KNOW AND ACCEPT that Christianity is true & is pure ... why, If Jefferson is correct, do Christians get so upset when ridiculed? After all, look at the late night TV Comics and their poking fun at President Bush.
If an individual or an organization holds himself/themselves out to public scrutiny aren't they setting up to be fair game?
Is it just Christians who are unsure of their religion that have such thin skins?

It seems like every story (including the new movie out about the Nativity) states that there were 3 wise men. However, the bible just says 'wise men' in the plural, which means it could be two or more.

I know the bible says they brought gifts of 'gold, frankincence, and myrrh', but that certainly doesn't mean 3 gifts... just what they were made of. It would be like saying today's kids get gifts of plastic, metal and glass, which could describe hundreds of toys. It's not likely that one guy brought Jesus a brick of gold. In fact, one of the wise men might have brought frankincence IN a gold container. Anyway, I've always been curious why people are so dead-set on there being three wise men.

Also, where does the term Magi come from? It certainly isn't in the King James version, and I can't find evidence of it in the Hebrew texts (not that I am proficient in Hebrew).

PLEASE do not copy and paste answers (esp. long ones) from Wikipedia and such. I have already read all those

That most of the stupid questions on YA are asked by some of the most intelligent and socially established individuals? I have a habit of looking at some of the asker's questions in the past and by some of there answers and you can get a pretty good idea of the individuals.

It just seems to me that the people who claim to be these two religions are the most out-spoken and judgmental. My understanding is that these religions are suppose to be religions of peace and forgivness (at least Chritianity, not possitive on the Muslim religion, but I have heard them say it is a religion of peace). With the exception of some Atheist, who many times are just a tetchy, these are the only people I see who behave in this maner.
Now I know there are always exceptions, but you still have to admit that is seems to be the way it is. I just feel that it is an insult to tell someone they are going to hell because they believe something different. Yes you may belive that is the truth, but couldn't we all try to be a little nicer about it. There is that old saying that you can catch more flys with honey...
Anyway the main question is why do these religions seem to be the most judgmental?
Please only answer what I have asked.
Thanks.
