If speaking in tounges was a gift from God that he gave to men for the purpose of teaching others his word the bible; why do people today "speak in tounges"? there is no need for it. no one can understand them when they do it which defeats Gods purpose for giving the gift. Rather it sounds as if they are posessed by demons instead of filled with holy spirit.

i went to school with a guy that said he spoke in tounges and he had no idea what his ramblings meant. the early christains knew what they were saying!!!

it seems to me that Satan is once again trying to transform himself from an angel of darkness to one of light. making the bad seem good and the good seem bad.

This modern thing is a psychic experience not a spiritual one, and it is addicting. It brings with it real euphoric feelings that addicts people to it. They say that it is the Holy Spirit but the Bible clearly teaches that the fruit of the Holy Spirit is self control, and they readily admit that when they do it they lose control over themselves. It is difinately not the Spirit of God.

Speaking in tongues is a gift from God. Everyone was given different gifts and not everyone speaks in tongues. It is something that is lead by the Holy Spirit. Along with someone speaking in tongues there is suppose to be an interpreter. Someone to understand what the person is saying. People who speak in tongues don't know what they are saying.

What you are saying is that there are somethings that were done in the bible that are no longer necessary. I disagree. Things that happened in the bible still happen today such as infidelity, homosexuality, murder and the list goes on. Why can't people still speak in tongues? I think that the whole problem is that people fake speaking in tongues and most aren't spirit driven when they speak.

I hope you find understanding of this subject and I think that you should search the word for help.

God Bless

The best part about tongues is that you can pray out loud and tease satan for he doesnt know what you are praying about. But when you pray int he spirit with tongues evident GOD knows exactly what is being spoken for He is Spirit.

Tongues are a manifestation of the Holy Spirit. Tongues are also a manifestation of the Holy Spirit with the will of man cojoined communicating in a manner the flesh cannot interpret.

But Paul did say it is better to prophecy in an assembly than speaking tongues. So

So now I shall prophecy. Tongues will become even more prevalent throughout the next years. The WORD of GOD shall be presented in its fullness. Amovement is about to take place in North America. /This movement is ordained by GOD and was prphecied by his prophets. One of those prophets was Smith Wigglesworth. Get ready tongue speaking bornagain believers for GOD is raidsing up a Holy Army. With the WORD of GOD at the forefront as did the Angel of the Lord did in various times.
Miracles signs and wonders are going to follow this movement. It will be unlike anything we have experienced in this generation.

People of GOD, believers of Christ get ready for the WORD for the GOD Movement. Many will scoff and jeer just AS THEY DID BEFORE.

The time is nigh. Draw nigh unto GOD through Christ His Son. Our Lord and Savior Ame!!!

Well it is a gift from God that has certain qualifiers with it if you read the scriptures There is to be a translator who can understand and mediate for God. It does happen, I have seen it and it was freaky...but good freaky. I know it was real because the lady translating got the message but only heard the tape of the speaking. It was a message that was actually given to another member of the congregation that pertained only to her. Incidenatally, the lady speaking in tongues was my aunt who had never believed in it before.

I don't know if you've read up on it or not but in the bible it clearly states:
Corinthians 14:1-3
Follow after charity, & desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy 2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. 3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, & exhortation, & comfort.
That is very clear to me, & does not speak of evil at all. It is like the same principal as when babes are babies, they understand their own garble~ as does God ~ But WE have no idea what they are saying. For example, my son is autistic. Very few words he says, HIGHLY motivating words (cookie, pop, I wanna go-out) are the only consistency he has. But the rest of our day, he speaks his very own language - he's even said a few ummmmm perplexing words as there was no way he could have known them, once he said "mordecai" for a while he said "I love Gaa" his father & I interpreted as "I love God" and would say it back to him to encourage the few words he says that we understand. For a while his somewhat alarming word was "allah", which he had absolutely no exposure to.
Well, sorry so long, I just think this particular question is one of those things that only the Lord will answer, when it is time.:o]

Right on my brother! Why are so many going astray by this rediculous doctrine which is flawed in a BIG way?

The tongues that were spoken on the day of Pentecost made sense, they are actual language's because there were people there in Jerusalem from every nation on earth and they were hearing the GOSPEL (not nonsense) in THEIR langauge. This wa so they would understand it and 3000 of them did. They came as followers of Judism and left as Missionaires for Christ. They returned to there own countries with the Gospel and the Spirit of God working with in them to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

This standing up in front of the crowd and uttering sylabals is nonesense and makes no sense.

Personally , I have experienced the "speaking in other tongues", The Spirit of God was upon me and the words just started coming out. However, I don't believe that anyone can just start speaking it at any given time. The Spirit of God must be present , and then there must be an interpretation.I don't expect anyone to understand if they have not experienced it for themselves.

Speaking in Tongues is just as real today as it was 2000 yrs ago, But just speaking in tongues in a church does not benefit anyone unless there is a interpretation of what was said in the tongues. & Also a Prophecy can't also be an interpreation to the tongues. If a unbeleiver comes into a church and see all speaking in tongues, won't they say, they all are mad, but if ONE Interpretae it, then they will surely said God is with Them.

Tongues, then, are a sign, not for believers but for unbelievers; prophecy however, is for believers, not for unbelievers. So if the whole church comes together and everyone speaks in tongues, and some who do not understand or some unbelievers come in, will they not say that you are out of your mind? ......... 1 Corinthians 14:22-40 I suggest you look up this scripture for a complete truth about prophesy and tongues.

No, purely people who've deluded themselves in doing an act that's not biblical. interior the bible, conversing in tongues ability conversing yet another language that an be interpreted by using yet another member of the congregation. If the translation can't be executed, the guy who speaks in tongues is asked to maintain his mouth closed. What we see among charismatics is a variety of cultural phenomenon that's exciting, yet far from being something supernatural.
