You are a fresh MIT grad going to work in the big rocket industry in town. But you are different from most ppl here because of your smug belief in the scientific method.

Ppl make small talk by asking what church you go to. If you tell them you are not religious, they will be appalled and make sure you feel like an outsider.

So what church do you pick to pretend to be a co-religionist?

I split up with my baby's dad when I was 6 months pregnant because he was physically violent towards me. He was very unhappy that I finished with him and quite angry too - said that I wouldn't let him see the baby etc. I was fully prepared to let him see the baby, but now that she's actually been born I feel very protective & don't know whether I should or not.

I was brought up without a dad myself so I know how it feels and that it's NOT a good thing but my protective instincts are really kicking in. If he was violent to me, will he hurt my (sorry, our!) baby?

He hasn't seen her yet, but he wants to. I want him to see her but not if he's going to be abusive to me or her.

Anyone got any advice? Guys how do you feel about this?

the same as defining a word using the same word? people quote the bible to prove god's existence but it doesn't make sense. people who believe in god wrote the bible, over a thousand years ago when a jar of mayonnaise would be considered a miracle.

If one believes in such philosophical things such as having a 'self' seperate from one's body/mind, does that mean that it can be 'lost'? Or do people believe more than the 'self' is something produced by the brain, and therefore is not something that can be 'lost'? It's an interesting question I'm not sure I have enough scientific/philosophic knowledge to answer.

There is this guy that comes into my work (I work at Blockbuster) who I like but I don't know if he is gay or not. Besides the obvious asking him if he'd like to go out to eat or the movies or whatever, what can I say to let him know I'm gay and interested without being obvious since I'm not completely out at work, plus, if he isn't then I'd be humiliated since he comes into my job all the time. Plus, he could get offended. Anyway, what can I say or is there really such a thing as "gaydar" to know if he's gay? Any suggestions gay guys who understand where I'm coming from?
