Its been said many times, that nothing gives a person a greater sense of purpose than opposition to an enemy. Whether the enemy deserves to be an enemy or knows hes an enemy, is a lesser point.

Go to Islamic chat rooms, and listen to how much dialogue centers around these "enemies".

Its not enough however to simply declare an enemy, like "Satan". Do people really hate Satan and live to fight this "enemy"? No, hes not tanglible. So, while the bible also refers to "enemies" it doesnt put enough flesh on the bone, and thus, doesnt create as powerful a sense of purpose as you will see in the Islamic community.

Heres a Quran aya, that even makes your entire family the enemy!

O ye who believe! Lo! among your wives and your children there are enemies for you, therefor beware of them. And if ye efface and overlook and forgive, then lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. http://cwis.usc.edu/dept/MSA/quran/064.qmt.html

Anyway, do a Quran word search with "enemies/enemy".

One of my favorite philisophical quotes is.

"Nothing on earth has had to evolve more rapidly and desperately than religion in order to survive."

While blatently apparent to anyone who researches religious history, does it suprise you that people still believe in a structured form of a God/God(s). It is truly astounding how these people can convince themselves, with no knowledge on the subject, that their religion is right and everyone else is wrong. I am clearly interested in the psychological side of these thoughts.

What are your guys thoughts?

The Bible was written by forty different people over a period of hundreds of years. Just a little proof that God is in control and the center of the universe.
The shortest chapter of the Bible is Psalm 117. The longest is Psalm 119. The chapter in the center of the Bible is Psalm 118. There are 594 chapters before and after Psalm 118. Multiply this number by 2 and you'll get 1188. The center verse of the Bible is Psalm 118:8. Psalm 118:8(NKJV): It is better to trust in the LORD than put confidence in man." The word Lord is in the center of this verse and in the center of the Bible. How could this have happened without God's plan and Him in control?

As children 50yrs ago we were brainwashed by Hollywood to think of them as Savages who had to be wiped off the face of the Earth.
Cowboy and Indian Films showing them being massacred by Whites with high powered rifles were very popular. But during childish 'Hurrah/Boo' chase sequences I used to get into hot water with the crowd, when I cheered the Indians.........

Imagine for 30 seconds you are wrong...

Atheist: What evidence could God give you to make you believe that He was real (not kind, just real)?

Theist: What could you learn or see that would make you disbelieve in God?

Got a magic wand for Christmas, aged 7, and after much anticipated excitement, waved it around but no sparks came out of it and suddenly realised it was just an inert black plastic tube with white tips on the end.

At that exact moment, something inside me died.

I was at a store trying some clothes on, and I accidentally hit someone who happened to be walking near me while I was stretching my arm.

I don't know how this person's glasses ended up in the floor; I didn't hit strong.

Was it my fault? Am I supposed to pay for it? Can I get into trouble by refusing to pay or just not answering this person's calls?

The vikings were in Ireland for over two hundred years, in medieval times...but you would think that the norse sagas, and irish tales would have transmigrated between the two. I see some signs...Troll stories in the Shetland, Orkneys...etc. but I would think there would be more signs of each. Any folklorist out there with a theory?

You might remember some of my other questions about what to do about my female friend that I have feelings for. It has been about a month and we have become even closer friends. I thought it was a passing feeling and that I would become 'immune' to her. But the feeling has only grown stronger and I am ready to ask her how she would feel having a relationship with me. I think it is important for me and our friendship for me to be honest about my feelings. She is such an understanding and nice person and friend, I dont know if that makes it harder or easier. But the last thing I want to do is lose her as a friend. What would you do to tell your friend that you have feelings for them? or if you have been in this situation, How did you do it? How did it turn out? Thanks
