Our founding fathers were at best deist. They did not believe in a personal God, and made that quite clear, so how come there are so many who say this country was founded on christian ideals?

Where it is from, and what it is? I saw one question that told what it is from the Islamic viewpoints. But, not all Muslims know it. That surprised me. So many of my Muslim and Jewish friends wear them. It is very popular in the Mid-east---------a stone in the middle of is to keep the evil eye away from you. I have alot of them (different types of jewelry).

BUT! It started in the Mid-east long before Islam. The Jews of this part of the world use it, too. They had it long before Christianity and Islam came along.

The Jews call it the hand of Mariam (sister of Moses), tho some call it the hand of G-d. I do not like this as I feel G-d should not be depicted in any way.

Can anyone add anything to this? I'd like to learn more.
