Our founding fathers were at best deist. They did not believe in a personal God, and made that quite clear, so how come there are so many who say this country was founded on christian ideals?

As the Government of the United State of America is not in any sense, founded on the Christian religion: as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws religions or tranquillity of musselmen; and as the states never have entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mehomitan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

"It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn
Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with
Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, guns, Bells, Bonfires
and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from
this Time forward forever more. You will think me transported with
Enthusiasm but I am not. I am well aware of the Toil and Blood
and Treasure, that it will cost Us to maintain this Declaration,
and support and defend these States. Yet through all the Gloom
I can see the Rays of ravishing Light and Glory. I can see that
the End is more than worth all the Means. And that Posterity will
tryumph in that Days Transaction, even altho We should rue it,
which I trust in God We shall not."
-- John Adams (letter to Abigail Adams, 3 July 1776)

Our founding fathers may have been deist, but many of the colonies were founded by outcast christian sects: the puritans and the quakers.
I find it ironic that these people left their homes because they were told they couldn't believe what they wanted, then came to this land and told the natives the same thing.
The statement about it being a christian country founded on christian ideals is nothing more than propaganda to further their own agenda...we're all free as long as we do what they want....

While that may be true of Jefferson and some of the other founding fathers, the people who lived here and fought for the independence of this country from England were overwhelmingly Christian. Even Jefferson consented to the phrase 'divine providence' be included in his declaration.

Why because even though most of the founding fathers were deists, they still respected the basis of Christianity. No, this country wasn't founded by Christians, we were first to come here as IMMIGRANTS and settled our Christian beliefs.
That's why as of this day, we're an open society to all religious beliefs

History 101:
The pilgrims and the separatist were the first settlers in the new world. They left Holland and England to practice freedom of religion, because the church of England was the only religion you could practice.
They were free to practice Christianity without fear of persecution and punishment.
Godly men wrote the Constitution and it was based on Bibical principals.
Freedom, it's a lovely thing.

False. Name more than eight deists. You can't. The overwhelming majority were Christian, all Protestant except three Catholics. Here is a list to help you out. Please back up your claim.
