Where it is from, and what it is? I saw one question that told what it is from the Islamic viewpoints. But, not all Muslims know it. That surprised me. So many of my Muslim and Jewish friends wear them. It is very popular in the Mid-east---------a stone in the middle of is to keep the evil eye away from you. I have alot of them (different types of jewelry).

BUT! It started in the Mid-east long before Islam. The Jews of this part of the world use it, too. They had it long before Christianity and Islam came along.

The Jews call it the hand of Mariam (sister of Moses), tho some call it the hand of G-d. I do not like this as I feel G-d should not be depicted in any way.

Can anyone add anything to this? I'd like to learn more.

There are a lot of pagan traditions, but the "hand of Fatima" is not a mainstream Islamic belief.

There is thing called "nazr" and avoiding the evil eye. Some people go overboard with it, like my Mom, but technically its apart of Islam.

Fatima was the daughter of Mohammed. In Islam she is referred to as "the most perfect woman after Mary".

Fatima was a young girl, in France. She saw The virgin Mary in early 1800's. She saw her couple more times. Later Fatima, became a sister in the Catholic Church!!

I know Fatima was Mohammed's daughters name. I know that the Virgin Mary appeared to children in Fatima I also know that a Muslim buried a statue of the Virgin Mary and Child by the Wolf River in Spain and then I know that the Virgin Mary appeared to St Juan Diego in Guadalupe (Our Lady of Guadalupe--guade--meaning water in Aramaic and Lupe --meaning wolf in Aramaic. Strange isn't it? I also know that the Muslim Faith honors Mary as the Mother of Jesus but, sadly they do not think he was who he is They think he was merely a prophet..
