I'm a former New Yorker living in the South now.

And I've noticed that the people who are most vocal about 9/11, and wear t-shirts, have twin tower stickers on their cars, etc, etc around here are the same people that hate New York with a passion.

anyone else see the irony in people who hate NY the most wrapping themselves in the image of the twin towers?

If they hate NY so much, why the hell do they care?


I'm sorry, but I hate it when people use someone else's tragedy as their own political tool.

I was amazed when I heard some white people saying that black folks are racist for having their own TV channels and stuff... I was like excuse me?
AS a black girl I cant go to a "white " hair salon coz these women just woulndt know what to do with my hair! How many white woman know how to do cornrows ?

I pick up Elle magazine its talking about tanning and well I dont really feel concerned !

Simple as that , we dont do it because we are racist its because we think we that we have been represented pretty unfairly( and you know its true) in the medias so we need to take control,express ourselves with our own sensivity ,own views ,our own words

there was a guy earlier who said we as black people like thuggery and drugs and hoes. What do white people like? Meth thats what. Not to be funny but thats why I can't go in walmart and buy certain cold medicines without being asked for ID. Plastic surgery. Implants and **** they can not afford. The people who really love hoes is the one who control tv overall and we know its not a black man because he could never have that much power.

ok.here's the problem.there's this guy in my college & i'm new there,he's not.he's the only guy i haven't talked with still.

apparently he hadn't had much luck with girls & he had told my friends that he's 'kind of laying off girls for the time being".anyone got any tips on how to start talking to him without making it too obvious?my friends have this idea abt inviting us to a conference online & then signing off,leaving us to do the talking so that it won't feel too awkward at school...will that work or are there any better strategies?

p.s.he's not in any of my classes,i see him only at break but he's coming to this youth group thing in church which i'll probably attend as well

usually,i'm a very outgoing person,but in this situation the problem is that i started liking him before talking to him...

How much money could you save if:

1) One of you was home to cook all meals?

2) One of you was home cleaning your own house instead of the cleaning lady?

3) One of you was watching your own children instead of daycare?

4) One of you was helping your children with homework instead of a tutor?

5) If one of you was ironing and washing your own laundry instead of the cleaners?

6) If one of you was raking your own leaves instead of a gardener?

7) If one of you was washing your own car instead of going throug the drive-through wash?

8) If one of you was clipping coupons instead of rushing into the store and grabbing what ever was marketed in front of your face.

9) If one of you was not buying a "career wardrobe" ?

10) If one of you wasn't commuting to and from work every day?

Are we Americans really doing what is best for our families by having two-income households? It costs a lot of money to work and or have a career. Is it really worth it for both Mom and Dad to be working?

I am from Quebec, Canada and i dont have much experience with american culture. I see most of it on TV and so on. i'm assuming that most people on this site are American (correct me if i'm wrong) and i have to say that i dont feel as affected by racism as you guys seem to be. I know that it exist every where and i know there are skin heads and hard core white power people here as well as black people who resent white people and people that hate jews and all immigrants here. just the other day a jewish school was set on fire here in Montreal. so i know that discrimination very well does exist here. but still. i get the feeling that it is much more present there in the states. we receive a lot of immigrants here in Quebec and Montreal is one of the most culturally diverse places to be. Honestly i love it here!! basically my question is...do you guys both american and canadian think that one culture is more preoccupied with race than the other??
