How much money could you save if:
1) One of you was home to cook all meals?
2) One of you was home cleaning your own house instead of the cleaning lady?
3) One of you was watching your own children instead of daycare?
4) One of you was helping your children with homework instead of a tutor?
5) If one of you was ironing and washing your own laundry instead of the cleaners?
6) If one of you was raking your own leaves instead of a gardener?
7) If one of you was washing your own car instead of going throug the drive-through wash?
8) If one of you was clipping coupons instead of rushing into the store and grabbing what ever was marketed in front of your face.
9) If one of you was not buying a "career wardrobe" ?
10) If one of you wasn't commuting to and from work every day?
Are we Americans really doing what is best for our families by having two-income households? It costs a lot of money to work and or have a career. Is it really worth it for both Mom and Dad to be working?

Actually, I am a 38 year old career woman who's daughter is now 14 and in High School. I have worked my whole life and realize now that my time and money would have been better spent if I had stayed home with her all these years.
I live in a very upscale area and there are many women who have the opportunity to stay home and glory in motherhood and wifehood, but for the sake of image and the diamonds and the fancy shoes, they work. So, I suppose you can say that I do live in a different world than you, but I suppose that was the world I was talking about, now wasn't it?

Ok, we have a two income household, and I can promise you, we can't afford any of that stuff. We don't have day care for our kids, they don't have a tutor, we don't dry clean ANY of our clothes, we don't have a yard of our own, but if we did, we wouldn't hire a gardener, I DO clip coupons (and use them), I drive 8 miles to work, and he car pools, and one of us cooks at night, every night. And most of the people I know live this way too. I don't actually know anyone who has all this stuff you're talking about. What are you like 16 and have no clue about the real world??? LIfe isn't a soap opera.

A very thought provoking question. I am married and I have always had to work not for the extravagance but at of pure necessity to survive and to pray the rent, that is why we opted not to have our own children because we would have to put them in day care. My job is a way for me to use my gifts, talents and abilities to help others you make a living by what you get you make a life by what you give -WC.
The cost of living is very high and that is why a lot of couples work. My mom raised a large family and stayed home but back then it was doable.
But I will say this if I had children I would do everything in my power to stay home or only work part time because of limitations, medical problems and financial problems that was not meant to be.
I do believe that this nation is very materialistic you don't need a lot to be happy

First of all I'm single, no kids and not married so this wouldn't apply to be but I want to answer anyway :) I know a couple who only has a single person working and she is a stay at home mom. They were renting a house next door and only recently bought one. They have four kids, one van and an old beat up volvo. The wife does all of those things that you just listed and more and that's a whole other job in itself. When the kids are college aged, they wouldn't have saved enough money to help them.

I agree with your point. I think if you budget right then you don't need two incomes. I am all for Mom staying home. The sacrifice might be cable and high speed intenet and fancy cars. Maybe even cell phones. I think if someone really cares about their kids, they will give up the luxuries so that a parent can stay home with them.
I know people who do it and they don't have the luxuries I mentioned above, but their children are well loved and well cared for.

The IRS is interior the technique of becoming a sparkling tax style for working people. it rather is going to simplify the tax code for each individual. The tough draft sounds like this: Obama style EZ a million) How lots income did you earn final twelve months? ___________ 2) Write a examine for the quantity entered on line #a million and deliver it to me. thank you on your vote for "replace" and your Patriotism. basically, Barack Obama

my husband and I have found a way to have me work from home and he only drives about 5 minutes to work. I have to make money but if I can do it from home, that is cheap.
