Why do we use the term"race" when refering to a person's skin color, rather than "nationality, as when refering to their ethnic background, or country of origin?

Early in evolution, it seems there were two kinds of human beings, one stronger than the other. The weaker ones had to run from the stronger ones, who were bent on killing them.

This developed into a constant running, or "race."
