Mary Magdalene was an original follower of Jesus, along with some other women who also supported Jesus and the 12 disciples financially, so they played a crucial role in his ministry. As such, I believe she should be called a disciple, as this means a follower of Jesus, which she was.
She was also the first person that Jesus appeared to and she eventually recognises him. She was given a 'mission' by Jesus, to go and tell the other disciples the news - I think this makes her one of the first apostles. (Apostle means a chosen messenger or ambassador of Jesus).
Refs: John 20:1-2, and John 20:10-18 (NIV).

To have young children who don't understand exactly what it means recite it every day is morally wrong and government loyalty oaths of any kind are inconsistent with an open and liberal society.

show off their bodies on the internet. I'm amazed at how many have no problem to show off their butts or breasts or both. Why? Is there no modesty left in people today?

Sometimes I go to visit my friend Teri. Her mom is usually home. I noticed the last few times I've been over, she tries to question me about my ancestry & whether or not I am Jewish

1. first, when I was introduced to her she said about my name, "that's Jewish, right?" (my name has a "man" in it)

2. I was wearing a silver cross necklace my grandma gave me & she said to me "that's a nice necklace, why are YOU wearing it?" and I told her & she said "oh, aren't you Jewish?"

3. I asked her why she thought I was Jewish & she said "oh, you look it." in a rather nasty way.

4. she asked me what countries my family is from and then said "are you sure about that?" like she didn't believe me.

Her daughter & I always get confused for sisters or twins, so, if I "look it," so must her daughter!

I am sure this family is not Jewish, so what's her deal? And why is it so important to her?

thanks guys!

Everyone has a right, indeed a moral duty to criticize religion since it is so prevalent in modern life. Why do so many people criticize atheists when they are both powerless and put-upon (at least in North America)? Should atheists respond with violence, as so many of the religious do?

As far as I can ascertain there is not a single passage in the entire Bible which has anything to say about adults having sex with children. Why does God not condemn it, when so many other things are specifically and explicitly cited as abominations?

It seems to me that to condemn adult consensual relationships (e.g. homosexuality and relationships out of marriage), and yet have nothing to say about child molesters, is perverse in the extreme. Why does god feel this way?

Do you for example, support the current administration because they do things that you can point to as fulfilling Biblical Prophecy?

Isn't that the definition of self fulfilling prophecy? What does your death cult insist on dragging the rest of humanity down with you? Why cant you lock yourselves in your rooms and dance with snakes until your savior comes? Isn't patience supposed to be one of your virtues?

Earl Hickey from the show "My Name is Earl"? Wouldn't the world be a better place if everyone went out of their way to make up for bad things they have done, instead of speaking to the spirit in the sky and just saying they are sorry?

The wearing of the veil by women is an illogical premise to claim that women are inferior to men. It is more appropriate to indict a society of female exploitation if it tolerates pornography rather than if it enforces the veil. Given that Allah is neither male nor female, given that He does not endear people to Himself based on their gender, given that the Creator cares about all of us male or female, given that the sexual and violent drive of men is stronger than that of women...given all this, it is illogical to cast a negative light on the following injunctions contained in the Qur'an (translation)

[33:59] O Prophet, tell your wives and daughters and the believing women to draw their outer garments around them (when they go out or are among men). That is better in order that they may be known (to be Muslims) and not be annoyed...

Some people may believe we are nothing more than this physical or biologocal body.Well I want them and others to read this completely and share their views.
Normal people(wether religious or not, believer in god or not) become happy after they do a good act, even if their action can't be justified by materialistic laws , for example sacrifising one's self for another person, or to give your kidney to someone else for free.
And they will get sad in their hearts when they do something evil , even if they make a good money(that their actions are justifyable by materialistic laws) ofcourse I am talking about 'normal' people whose heart hasn't changed dramatically.
So if we read between the lines it proves there is something more than this physical world it proves reward and consequence for our actions. >>
this is a feeling so deep in our heart(deeper than one can say because they were taught it in the school when they were child), it is deep there.
Just like we love and want the beauty , we love good acts( even if they dont make sense with materialistic laws).
you know, when something is in our heart there is a response outside, if there is the hunger inside ,there is food outside. if there is the need of love inside ,there is marriage and love outside. For every natural need or tendency or feeling that we have inside our hearts ,there is a response a satisfaction outside. the response to this feeling is that there is more than
this world, there is reward and consequenses.
Things make sense.
If we admire sombody when he get killed, trying to rescue somebody else which doesnt make sense by the physical laws,it means our hearts knows that there is more than this physical world.even if some people has become unbelievers and consciously deny it while their hearts unconsciously act in according to spritual laws.
and yes when god created us he put this in our heart.
Note that I dont say non-belivers dont do good acts, some of them do,beacause the truth is in their hearts but they consciously deny it.and sometimes they act in according to spritual laws without paying attention to it.
peace to you all
a muslim friend.

My boy and I were friends for a long time, about 3 years. I finally felt like I could trust him enough to let him know that I am gay and everything was cool as he did not have a problem with it. Now he is married with kids, but he is also messing around on the side with another woman. I have come to have a huge crush on him, which I think is love, and it kills me when he tells me of his sex life with women. But once in a while, I will get a bit of a "signal" from him, that he would not mind messing around with me either (mostly when we are drunk). Any opinions on this crazy **** situation? I have never been in something like this before.....and it kills me to want something I cannot totally have.

Glibness/Superficial Charm
Language can be used without effort by them to confuse and convince their audience. Captivating storytellers that exude self-confidence, they can spin a web that intrigues others. Since they are persuasive, they have the capacity to destroy their critics verbally or emotionally.

Manipulative and Conning
They never recognize the rights of others and see their self-serving behaviors permissible. They appear to be charming, yet are covertly hostile and domineering, seeing their victim as merely an instrument to be used. They dominate and humiliate their victims.

Grandiose Sense of Self
Feels entitled to certain things as "their right." Craves adulation and attendance. Must be the center of attention with their own fantasies as the "spokesman for God," "enlightened," "leader of humankind," etc. Creates an us-versus-them mentality

Pathological Lying
Has no problem lying coolly and easily and it is almost impossible for them to be truthful on a consistent basis. Can create, and get caught up in, a complex belief about their own powers and abilities. Extremely convincing and able to pass lie detector tests.

Lack of Remorse, Shame or Guilt
A deep seated rage, which is split off and repressed, is at their core. Does not see others around them as people, but only as targets and opportunities. Instead of friends, they have victims and accomplices who end up as victims. The end always justifies the means and they let nothing stand in their way.

Shallow Emotions
When they show what seems to be warmth, joy, love and compassion, it is more feigned than experienced and serves an ulterior motive. Outraged by insignificant matters, yet remaining unmoved and cold by what would upset a normal person. Since they are not genuine, neither are their promises.

Incapacity for Love
While they talk about "God's love" they are unable to give or receive it. Since they do not believe in the genuineness of their followers' love, they are very harsh in testing it from their devotees and expect them to feel guilt for their failings. Expects unconditional surrender.

Need for Stimulation
Living on the edge, yet testing the beliefs of their followers with bizarre rules, punishments and behaviors. Verbal outbursts and physical punishments are normal.

Callousness/Lack of Empathy
Unable to empathize with the pain of their victims, having only contempt for others' feelings of distress and readily taking advantage of them. Their skills are used to exploit, abuse and exert power. Since the follower cannot believe their leader would callously hurt them, they rationalize the behavior as necessary for their (or the group's) own "good" and deny the abuse. When devotees become aware of the exploitation it feels like a "spiritual rape" to them.

Poor Behavioral Controls/Impulsive Nature
Rage and abuse, alternating with small expressions of love and approval produce an addictive cycle for abuser and abused, as well as creating hopelessness in the victim. Believe they are all-powerful, all-knowing, entitled to every wish, no sense of personal boundaries, no concern for their impact on others. The followers only see them as near perfect.

Early Behavior Problems/Juvenile Delinquency
Usually has a history of behavioral and academic difficulties, yet "gets by" by conning others. Problems in making and keeping friends; aberrant behaviors such as cruelty to people or animals, stealing, etc.

Irresponsibility/Unreliability
Not concerned about wrecking others' lives and dreams. Oblivious or indifferent to the devastation they cause. Does not accept blame themselves, but blame their followers or others outside their group. Blame reinforces passivity and obedience and produces guilt, shame, terror and conformity in the followers.

Promiscuous Sexual Behavior/Infidelity
Totalist leaders frequently practice promiscuity, child sexual abuse, rape and sexual acting out of all sorts. This is usually kept hidden from all but the inner circle. Stringent sexual control of their followers, such as forced breakups and divorces, removal of children from parents, rules for dating, etc.

Lack of Realistic Life Plan/Parasitic Lifestyle
Tends to move around a lot or makes all encompassing promises for the future. Many groups claim as their goal world-domination or other utopian promises. Great contrast between the leader's opulent lifestyle and the followers' impoverishment. Support by gifts and donations from the followers who are pressured to give through fear and guilt. Highly sensitive to their own pain and health.

Criminal or Entrepreneurial Versatility
Changes their image and that of the group as needed to avoid prosecution and to increase income and to recruit a range of members. Is able to adapt or relocate as needed to preserve the group. Can resurface later with a new name, a new front group and a new twist on the scam.
