They don`t do that, do they ?
They never did that at my school and my school was a traditional grammar school, very middle class and old fashioned, but, in a very nice way.
It all sounds a bit dangerous to me, surely that will make the children overdose on nationalism and then, of course, there is a great likelihood that it will turn them into racists and bigots ? Can you imagine what would happen when they grew up ? Crikey, when they are old enough to take part in politics and maybe even get into power, they will probably try to run roughshod over the world starting wars and killing anybody that stands against them.
Gosh, there are enough racists and bigots in the world already, spreading religious and racial intollerence, we really do not want any more do we ?
I will check at the school in the morning, I really don`t want my children to be affected by such crass behaviour. I want them to be free and open minded...wow...I am getting angry now and I do not even know if it is true !
Maybe I should wake them up and ask them. I hope this isn`t a wind-up.

uh because we are in america you pledge alleg to america by having them recite it every day gets them familiar with it .they learn it like they learn thier abcs and 123s .then later when they get old enough they lear what it stands for .what is morally wrong with it if it is the god part the ones who do not believe do not have to say that part .why is it not good to teach the kids to be loyal to something like their country when they get old enouhg they can form their own opinions of their country but while they are young what is wrong with it? but then again why should any lawofficer ,judge, president .any one person swear loyalty to this country ? that would be wrong? kids are our future leaders dont teach them to be loyal to anything and if you think this country is bad now wait and see it then
one there is only one part of the allegiance that says god one nation under god if you do not want to say it then dont .but why should we not teach our kids to be loyal and upstanding citizens . when i was in school yes they taught it to us since day one this is not a new thing they have done this for so long and maybe not every school in every state but it has been done .other people have been well educated and went on to help this country and others and said the pledge .does no other country have a pledge ?are we the only one?why does this have to be a brainwashing attempt and blah blah blah stop and look around you we are not a perfect country but you know what we are not a bad country whether you support bush or not believe everything about this government or not we are still looked toward as a better place to live by other people in other countries. in this country we are free to state are disapproval of the govt and what not we can post these types of questions and be free from getting killed or exiled or whatever else that can and is done to people in other countries for going against their govt so i will def encourage my kids to pledge allegiance to this country .if you dont want to fine.

This is NOT a liberal society. A long time ago there used to be Bibles in every school. You say young children dont understand what the pledge of allegiance is. Maybe that is the trouble with our society. We took God out and our country has been crumbling ever since. Maybe you should teach them what it means and stop complaining. Or maybe you should move to another country and then you will appreciate what you lost.

My late father was an American citizen, and lived in America most of his life, and my grandmother said that, in order to relieve any money that he had for myself, I would need to be on American soil with a dual citizenship, which would require me to pledge allegiance to the flag.
I didn't do it. I would rather not pledge allegiance to a fraudulent government and a false God.

Because the government wants to brainwash us early to make us think this country is wonderful and there is no trouble in the world that the US can't fix by sticking its oversized nose in it. Thank the goddess for liberal parents. Everyone should have a liberal parent.

I totally agree.
It's complete indoctrination and brainwashing. When I was in elementary school, not only did we have to pledge to the flag, we then had to sing the national anthem!!
...and people wonder why this country is so full of vacuous flag-waving sheep!!

Don't you want to pledge allegiance to the greatest country in the world? One has to pick a team, don't you think?

Why not? Its to insure that they know they have rights and that they can be anything in this country. They might not know exactly what it means while theyre young but they will carry it with them for the rest of their life. Even if your dissappointed with everything thats going on in the world today, our country and our people are blessed and children should know that. You should what our children to know that.Always.

I fully agree.. The same as with muslims that dont eat pork meat.
We had a little muslim girl at our sons birthday party and she wasnt allowed a barbecued pork chop when everyone else was eating them it made me feel very sorry for her.

It is along the same lines as chivalry. Most young kids don't understand why its polite but it is much easier to teach someone when t hey are young then to try to teach them when they are older.
