The wearing of the veil by women is an illogical premise to claim that women are inferior to men. It is more appropriate to indict a society of female exploitation if it tolerates pornography rather than if it enforces the veil. Given that Allah is neither male nor female, given that He does not endear people to Himself based on their gender, given that the Creator cares about all of us male or female, given that the sexual and violent drive of men is stronger than that of women...given all this, it is illogical to cast a negative light on the following injunctions contained in the Qur'an (translation)
[33:59] O Prophet, tell your wives and daughters and the believing women to draw their outer garments around them (when they go out or are among men). That is better in order that they may be known (to be Muslims) and not be annoyed...

[24:30-31] Say to the believing man that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that will make for greater purity for them; and Allah is well acquainted with all that they do. And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; and that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what must ordinarily appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands...

i think it is beautiful for a woman to wear a veil...
and the ayaat from the Quran u displayed dont show any disrespect to women or unequality of men and women, on the contrary...
God wants the women not to expose themselves and not shame themselves.. it is beautiful... and gives more value to women..

i want to thank u for ur question and ur Translations from The Holy Quran, but if u notice an important point in ur question, is that Men are asked to Apply Modesty (Lower Their Gazes) 1st then the Women are told for Modesty afterwards (u can even see from the reference No. that 24:30-31 comes before than 33:59).
Truly believe that Islam elevates the status of women. And, societies that allow pornography and such customs and liberism regarding Women are ACTUALLY Degrading Them, by forcing them to wear no Veils and encouraging them to wear Lesser and Lesser Clothes.
By the way, when i was a kid, i used to be grounded or spanked when i did the wrong things (like playing with fire, or putting fingers in electric socket). Now, i know that spanking/grounding was for my own good. Same is the case with Muslim women in Muslim Countries, BUT Islam Never allows for women to be treated ill or badly coz of such veil-related things, its most the exaggeration of media or ppl who aren't aware of Muslim Customs.

Why do you equate pornography with female exploitation, and what exactly do you mean by exploitation anyway? The females in porn get paid, and get paid rather handsomely in some cases, as do the males. Would it be morally OK if we were sure that all the women were fairly paid? Why don't you mention male exploitation, since they are probably almost as numerous in pornography as females? Does a society that tolerates pornography get accused of making males inferior by this same argument of exploitation? If not, why not?
I think you have a lot of explaining to do.

The problem with the veil in most Muslim countries is that those women who do not follow the custom are treated poorly, punished or some other maltreatment occurs. I would rather have pornography any day and freedom to choose to watch or not then be forced to be veiled and protected from the world simply because there are sexist and controlling men about.

Most Muslim women don't wear veils. I'm Muslims and i have yet to meet a women whom wears veils. Veils are not Islamic,
The Quran says that oppression is worst then murder and women are to be treated with respect and courteous. I can cite that for you if you want me to. PS: please cite where you found that in the Quran
Thanks
But I don't see anything about a veil, do you think women should dress in houchie clothes, sorry that's not the Muslim way

I am not really sure. When I gave thought to the question one of the things that came to mind was all those men that got off on rape charges because of what the women wore at the time.

I would say pornography is more healthy out of the two. Yes, I do appreciate pornography for the obvious reasons, etc. etc., but my rationale here, is based on my opinion that getting things out in the open, exposure, confrontation and adding to the cultural soup, is better than hiding, surpressing, and denying things about ourselves.

Pornography is more appropriate, it is not sexist, both men and women are in pornography, pornography can even be considered ceLibrating the human body.
