In laws that define social morals, how much religion do you think should be involved? Where does the line between moral relativism and cultural or religious belief systems blur?

Examples of morality based legislating: abortion, cloning, stem-cell research, death penalty, gay marriage, governmental funding of faith-based services (hospitals, charities, arts), public decency standards (how naked is too naked?).

I've been thinking about it for quite a long while, and have decided what's the point of only one view?
That's why I'm here.
I want you guys to try and convince me that God either does or does not exist. Give evidence. Let's try and have a real discussion--the more heated the better-- and see what happens. Happy arguing :)

When I got married, I invited 3 people at work eventhough I wanted to invite few more. A year later, she got engaged and invited me and lots of her friends from work and not from work. I lost contact with her for a year bec. I was on maternity leave. When I got back from work, she changed department and see her very seldom. Few months after, I found out from few of my co-workers that they just attented her wedding. I felt left out. I was telling myself that I shouldn't expect to be invited anyways even I was there at her engagement and I invited her at my own wedding. But since then I lost interest in her and even the thought of inviting her at my place for BBQ, that I promised her long time ago, had disappeared. I said to myself what a waste to time to be her friend. I just move on since I don't see her anymore. We're still working the same co. but different dep't. I couldn't believe I'm writing this question but since I have nothing else to ask, might rather ask somebody's opinion.

Marriage is supposed to be a religious thing. Why does the state provide two married individuals of opposite sex extra rights that single people don't get? There are separate tax laws for married couples and couples have visitation rights.

Why does the state protect the rights of two opposite sex couples but not same sex? Why do they support Christian marriage of two people, but not polygamy like in other religions? Is this not religious discrimination? Why does our government make Christianity superior?

If they want to keep church and state separate, shouldn't they not support one definition of marriage over another. Personally, I'm against gay marriage. The Bible says gays are bad, and the Catholic Church should not allow it. But it is a religious thing. I don't understand why the state defines it as well.

It should be only a religious occurence. Politicians should say "marry however you want within your religion but don't expect the state to condone or condemn particular ones.

Who can trust anything the bible says? What is clear is that humanity is so desperately seeking God. A God that has abandoned us. A God that punished us all in an eternity of hell. Life seems like a delusion after another delusion, which makes me believe we all went insane after biting temptation. The bible seems to cover our eyes and see goodness where there is none. A distorted view to hide the horrible truth, that God has abandoned mankind in a dying world without hope. Everything around us is made of man and it's meaning is as hollow as our existence. However thanks to Adam and Eve, a way of life was created after God's gift had been tainted with evil. We all know God hates sin. We are not of God, but of Adam and Eve, and therefore made of sin.

One thing I always appreciated to God is the fact that I am an American and never had to worry about food, clothing, roof over my head. I can only imagine what it would be like to born in Africa where hunger and war is rampant.
Why did God make certain parts of the world full of poverty and wars so its people die and suffer everyday? We never had control over where we were born. If every human had choice, almost all of them would choose to be born in Western countries instead of Africa.
Can any Christians help me understand how God decides who gets to be born in poor coutries and who gets be born in wealthy, stable countries?

Isn't it enough that he's a prophet like Abraham and Mosys ? Give me one good reason to beleive that he died for other people sins ? Why couldn't he die in the line of duty delivering a noble message from god ?
I actually find it hard to beleive that god needs a sacrifice to forgive our sins. How mercifull would he be then?
All respects to respectable Christians and to Jesus himself.
