I've been thinking about it for quite a long while, and have decided what's the point of only one view?
That's why I'm here.
I want you guys to try and convince me that God either does or does not exist. Give evidence. Let's try and have a real discussion--the more heated the better-- and see what happens. Happy arguing :)

Please specify which god you are talking about.

God reveals, man observes.

Let's start with God. Everything we believe about God is in his book (bible). There is no new information available. The bible as the word of God as spoken through the prophets never proves that God exists. It assumes it. We simply believe that assumption. So there is no proof about God's existence in reveal knowledge.

Let move to move. Either man can observed (facts) are collected into theories by the scientific method. Theories come and go as man observes more facts. For example, evolution is a scientific theory that accounts for Darwin and others observations. Does that mean evolution will last forever, it may as long as it explains the facts. The pages of science are full of theories being refined as new facts became available.

Can the scientific method prove or disprove God existence? Tell me about the facts (men observations in different location). We have none. But what about creationism or intelligence design? There are beliefs because both require a belief in God, and God is not provable. God is a belief.

We have two belief systems: revelation (reveal knowledge) and science (observed knowledge). They are distinct and applying techniques of one to another yields silly questions like the one just asked.

As a Christian, I just need to remember the words Jesus said "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's."

Convinced?

I feel the way you do and though I am not sure I choose to see the bible as a book of fables/lessons that have been written as a type of guilt focused law...

I was speaking about this with my mother in law and she told me that the fact that I think about him a lot is his way of keeping me close...if I didnt think about him at all then I would be lost...

I dont know if she is right or not I mean there are so many things that tell me to question this..

give me a point and I will argue it...if I cant argue it then I will have to reevaluate my thinking...I would like to do this...in believeing that there is a force out there that is watching over me and that there is a place that I will go Instead of rotting in the ground when I die would be a comfort to me but I need something to prove to me that this is the truth.

There shouldn't be arguing. This is not the place to have a good discussion like this. It looks like you want an argument and Christians shouldn't argue. We are to spread the Word of God and Jesus Christ. People will agree or not. We should try to convince them but not by arguing or fighting.
Get together with some of your friends, family or some of the neighboring churches and get information from them and have a controlled conversation.

All of God's Guidance, Blessings and Love to you on your journey

I have written around 4 pages to try and give sound arguments that God does exist (and yet why there is evil in this world). you can check out on my msn space:
http://spaces.msn.com/app-doesgodexist/

As for concrete proof, I have also indicated the scientific truths in the Qur'an (some are more convincing than others). You can check that out at: http://spaces.msn.com/quranelkarim/

If you read all this and are not convinced, then there is nothing more i can do to convince you, though i'd love to hear your comments (you can post them on the msn spaces, and i ll get back to you if you want).

Please, if you're not serious about this, don't bother wasting your time and mine.

Peace be with you.

Why should I try to convince someone of something when they refuse to listen to anything other than what they believe? Much like people who said, I don't care if Columbus says the earth is round, I say it's flat so I'm not going to listen to his evidence, I'll just say he made it up, or it's not real evidence.

CONSIDER THIS:: You can write your thoughts down, you can explain them, get them across to others, but you cannot take the thought out of your head and put it on the table for others to touch, therefore we only have your word that you have the thought. Aren't thoughts then just as unreal as God?

Ok...listen to this. In 2004 my step brother had bad headaches and went to the dr. They did an MRI. Found a tumor. Did one surgery and got it out ...they thought...then because at this pint it was so aggresive that it was alost half of his brain and they had taken out part of his skull...they started chemo and radiation. At the end of it they did another MRI and found that the treatments had not really done anything. at this point the dr's gave him 3-6months to live. He had one child at this point and his girl was pregnant with his second. He had had 3 surgeries and all kinds of treatment but this tumor was over half of his brain and still growing. There was nothing else they could do. They wanted him to live out the rest of his life as normal and as painless as possible. So...they tried to take out some of the tumor to by him a little time but they couldn't. He was as prepared as to be expected. He went home and then in a month they did another MRI just to see how it was. ....Now you asked does God exist? The MRI came back with no tumor what so ever...like it had never been there in the beginning....Can you find any other explanation? I know the doctors couldn't nor could anyone else either.

God is a creation of man to create fear and order. Look at the many incarnation "god" has taken over the millions of years man has walked this planet. We change the face of the diety and it's core values and expectations to suit our societal needs. I have to believe that if "god" were real, we would bend to suit him/her/it, not the other way around.

We need the fear that god offers to create order in our society, we use the thought of god as a means to comfort ourselves for our lost loved ones, we use the existence of god to create the illusion of a higher state of being so we don't feel meaningless in our lives.

we are alive because we believe or not believe in something unconsciously. we have the urge to drive thinking. its just the the part of our brain growth. whether you like it or not- you think or chose to get sick and eventually die.
there is two forces of energies governing the whole unverse positive and negatives. due to lack of knowledge people just believed (they created religion) that the positive forces they are experiencing in life they called it GOD and opposites they sometimes called SATAN. they have different kind of perspective. in science's point of view people's perspective of GOD doesn't really exists it just simply a force.

the truth is there is really no GOD existed it just a people perpective, but you are believing in something above you in order to maintain life. some people needs religion in order to survive, and they believe GOD exist those are people who didn't choose to know the truth-they just easily believe on things around them. if it keeps them being alive so they thought it is really true actually in just some aspect. though not for long.
for those who searching for truth will have an everlasting life. will eventually have control. will have real life. no proof yet in these generation or era.

theturbolemming,
This is nothing new. I've encountered this type of thinking here and on other boards.

God doesn't want everyone. If you don't want to come to God, He doesn't want you. If you feel compelled to know Him, that's Him drawing you in. " None come save the Father draw him" is a paraphrase.

So don't waste your time. God can't be proven to you unless He calls you. So either stop being arrogant and find out what a Christian REALLY is, or go your way. He will allow you to go your way.
