...That religion is for insecure people? I don't understand that. What could be so insecure about praying for the good of others- the world? What could being modest and trying the best to be good have anything to do with insecurity? Please give me real answers only! Thank you!! :)

I work for a small construction business. My boyfriend's family owns it and he also works here (he is expected to take it over soon). (He and I have a future planned together). I started in January of this year. I make ok money but need to be making more. Bottom line - I work my as* off for them. I work from 6:30 am to 5 pm M-F. I have taken over almost all of the office responsibilites. I have been expecting to be "promoted" and make more money since when i was hired i was told that i would be assisting my bf running the company one day. Now - they are bringing in a General Manager and being sneaky about it. I feel like I have alot to offer a company - i have a good business sense. Why are they doing this? I basically am the General Manager - so why are they getting someone else to do it after all i have learned and already know? What do I do? I am very upset about this......

In 1990 those who decribed themselves as having no religion / atheist / agnostic / humanist numbered 14.331 million and represented 8.4 % of the population.

By 2001 this figure had jumped to 29.481 million representing a jump of 15.15 million or a 6.6 percentage point rise.

In numerical terms this catagory grew by 105.7 %

So basically this catagory has more than doubled in 11 years.

Are many Americans finally waking up to reason and common sense ?

For those of you who claim atheism/agnosticism is on the decline, what do you make of these results. Are they the work of "satan" trying to deceive us all ?

Atheists are correct that many aspects of traditional theism are absurd (divine foreknowledge of contingent events, divine omnipotence in the sense of the ability to bring about any state of affairs God wishes, infallible inspiration of the authors of ancient religious texts, etc). So is dialogue easier with theists who also reject those absurdities?

Is it possible to believe what you must believe to be a good Muslim, to have military and economic power, and to not pose an unconscionable threat to the civil societies of others? Or must Islam undergo a "renaissance and reformation" of their own if a stable peace is ever to be achieved between Islam and the West?

I work in an industry in which the very real threat of legal action exists if you mis-speak, or in some way bring offense to another. In the interest of protecting the downtrodden we've created, in my opinion, a web of laws and rules that surround the facade of personal liberty. I'm NOT saying I like to offend anyone. I AM saying, however, that there are plenty of people looking for offense, and they've successfully infiltrated the very core of how Americans think, vote, and even speak. I'm tired of it all. So, what's more important to you ..... the freedom to speak your mind, even if it's not pleasant to the ears of others, or the freedom to be free from the offensive thoughts, speech, religions, politics, etc., of others?

The scientists say it will pass very close according to the current trajectory. I believe it will cause havoc and a total disruption of life as we know it. what doomsday philosophy supports this?

Atheists are looking for the proof of God's existence, and one of their usual complaints is that there can be no God because there is so much evil action going on around the world.

Here's my question: by what means do we know what is "evil"? For example, we know what is "red" because it reflects a certain range of EM radiation; we know what is "loud" because it hurts our ears. If "evil" demonstrates that God does not exist, please teach me how to perceive this "evil" because it is obviously some potent stuff.

For everyone- anyone- who saw and answered my last question about me being black and all, I have more to say.

First, I am not black. And I wouldn't be ashamed if I were, mind you! I think it's sad that people are referring to my Avatar and just stating out that I'm of black ethnicity. Second, I was mostly talking about Americans stereotyping because they USUALLY happen to do it the most. It's a fact, not stereotyping. I have experience, for Pete's sake! I lived in the US for seven years!! They are pros at stereotyping. Let me repeat: this is a fact for MOST Americans- I'm not labelling myself. And I'm saying I never stereotype. It's just that, in this case, I really don't think I am! Thanks again for reading and please only answer if you have a REAL answer (not "ZZZzzZZzz" like some other person)!

Why are the religious so scared of dying? Why be bribed to do good things in exchange for eternal life?
Can't one just live in the moment and enjoy life now? Is your life that bad, that you have to wait for the afterworld? Do good things because it's the right thing to do. Shouldn't that just be the case?

I live near the G.M Tech center not far from Mt Clemens Michigan. The black people who work there are outstanding. They are well spoken and dress nice. But, 8 miles away the blacks dress like rappers and stand on street corners and deal drugs and rob people. Their neighborhoods have trash all over the place. Now, there is no reason for the blacks to be living like that. ( Why the trash all over the place?) Why can't they get a good education and be like the well dressed blacks at the G.M Tech center? Why the low life rapper look? Don't the blacks know how to dress for success?
