I live near the G.M Tech center not far from Mt Clemens Michigan. The black people who work there are outstanding. They are well spoken and dress nice. But, 8 miles away the blacks dress like rappers and stand on street corners and deal drugs and rob people. Their neighborhoods have trash all over the place. Now, there is no reason for the blacks to be living like that. ( Why the trash all over the place?) Why can't they get a good education and be like the well dressed blacks at the G.M Tech center? Why the low life rapper look? Don't the blacks know how to dress for success?

I agree with you. I just moved to GA from Warren, Michigan, and I know exactly what you're talking about.

Really, it's not just about black people (although I do see your point). It's all of SE Michigan...the whole area is depressed/in a slump. You should move to Georgia...life is grand here!

I got a little off topic... Hmm. Well, some people will tell you becuase black people were forced here into slavery and haven't been given a fair chance, blah blah. FIRST OF ALL, do you know who sold black Africans into slavery? OTHER BLACK AFRICANS. The smarter ones...ones with an education and money...they gathered up all the "wild" Africans from the bush and sold them. So, while my ancestors did buy and keep slaves, it was, in fact, other black people who sold them to my ancestors. Didn't learn that in History class, did you?

Secondly, I think in some (but not all) cases, it's one of those things where some black people feel they're "owed" for misfortunes that their ancestors had. The way they were treated, etc. Sorry Charlie...I didn't do anything to you or your ancestors, so I don't feel sorry for you and your "plight". With the way this country is today, there's NO reason why any black child can't go to school (college) when they get out of high school. They go to an inner city school? So the **** what...you might go to a crappy school with a crappy curriculum, but you can still be at the top of your class and graduate with honors and get scholarships and student loans.

Some black people see their parents/siblings/cousins etc. selling drugs and dressing like trash, and "it's a way of life" for them. Bullshit...you HAVE to know that selling drugs is wrong. Anyone with half a brain knows that. That's no way to live. Take some initiative and do well in school and then, like I said in the paragraph above...get a scholarship or students loans or grants and GO TO COLLEGE.

Those blacks that are educated and dress nice, as u put it, have decided to actually make something out of their lives, and not be stupid low lifes. Who still think that nothing bad can ever happen to them. Sometimes the "low lifes" really aren't like that. They are just under peer pressure. It happens to all of us. It's just that some people know how to fight it better than others. And sometimes those people know that what they're doing is wrong and harmful, but ignore it and decide to be "cool." Honestly, I think that dressing like a stupid low life and acting like one... taking drugs... selling them... being disrespectful... is completely like one of the worst decisions u can make in ur life. And since people are so judgmental, if they were to meet a black low life before they met an intelligent, sophisticated black, they would assume that ALL blacks are like that. And that is NOT true. I know that for a fact. Caz I know some black people who are some of the greatest people I've ever met! You know, this questions can also apply to white people. There are some white people out there who are the biggest low lifes or sluts ever! I mean look at all the celebrities. Who likes them? Sure, people like them for a while, but then they hear about something they did, and they learn to despise them! Ya, sometimes the things they say are lies, but still. Or look at normal people. How many times have u seen a white person smoking outside a non-smoking building? I have! Tons of times!
This question and my answer is not meant to offend anyone, and I'm REALLY, REALLY sorry if it did. Seriously. What I really want to say is that no matter what skin color u are, there are people that with huge flaws, and people with flaws that won’t harm anyone. That is a matter of opinion.

To use an alternative angle, why is it so hard for White guys to get into rap? Truth be told, it really does come down to knowing how to "dress/act/talk" like the natives. That's why most of the world is learning English. Doesn't make it better, just the one that was there first and easist to use for success.

Unfortunately, as Bill Cosby points out, the subculture of some U.S.A. citizens is anti-education, anti-success, anti-white, and the result is they create an isolated environment that reinforces the same values through generations.

There is a strong drive to change that, some of them becoming Republicans, some Democrats, but they are often derided as not being "Black" for it.

Well you have a valid point. First look at the mind set of these people. Is there anything for them to obtain worth getting when the media plays a role in their society. The media shows them that the lifestyle of sagging pants and corn rolls and pimped out vehicles, having drug deals daily and trying to live large is OK. Forsaking getting an education and talking part in American society.
We as a race of pple have been left behind on so much and seems like Apathy reigns supreme! Among the youth;not like the days of old when Human respect meant something, and being the best citizen to your community spoke of many words. Truthfully it is too much to answer on this level of forum. Yes it is part society and part the person themselves on why they live the way they do.

Erudite, this isn't just a black issue, this is a cultural issue; the culture of the ignorant and the poor-minded. It would be nice if all blacks could keep their neighborhoods clean, keep themselves out of trouble and do something useful with their lives; I wish that for all people of every race.

For the people that are slackers and thugs, there is no incentive for them to straighten up and fly right. The life of a gangsta is glamorized and glorified. They don’t want to participate in “normal” and “acceptable” behavior for whatever reason. Some don’t know how to act “right” and some just don’t care to. There will always be those that are rebellious.

But, there will also always be the ones that know how to be useful and positive contributors to society.

Thanks for the pity but we're processing.

Sadly, the color issue is still there and that can cause problems. But we're not all living the life of a 'hobo',sort of speak.

Many African-Americans live in high-class neighborhoods and live respectful and prosperous lives.

As for the rapper look, some gravitate towards that because they see others doing it.Plus,it's not just the 'blacks' dressing this way.

Lastly, dressing for success is a problem that anyone can have.Laziness,if that's what it is perhaps, has no color.

I agree also. It's not only blacks though. That's a mystery we'll never solve. You know why? Because if we were to ask a real person who lives their life that way, we would get shot.

Your very judgmental, God if the only person who has the right to judge! Have you looked at the other side of town for the whites, they are the same way. You cant group one race into a specific stereotype, we all have "trash" and we all have "snobs" ans we all have the "down to earth"..etc...Its just not the Blacks as you love to call them. Get over yourself!

After being forced to our country and put into slavery for so many years, and then being segregated from us and given lower standards, it takes generations for people to find stability again. You know, it wasn't that long ago that they were treated so wrongly.
