Religion, of all things, should be a unifier and a bringer of peace and enlightenment into the world. And, in a way, it is one of the only things that has been successful in uniting people across cultural and geographic boundaries. Unfortunately, that unity typically stems from the ideology of; believe what I tell you, in its entirety, or suffer eternal damnation. From that heavy-handed authoritarian place religion actually becomes a very divisive thing. Its all or nothing nature leads to an us vs them mentality. When brought up against other religions with the same ideology and all-or-nothing belief structure it creates a conflict and paradox that cannot be resolved.

I hope we are coming to a place where people will reject organized religion and the divisiveness it brings. I hope we are entering an era where people will approach the world with an open mind and ask more questions instead of thinking they always have the answers.

Since creationist think that science is a tool of the devil shouldn't they be eating food raw? No using an tools to make fire allowed! Maybe you should all go back to hunting in gathering. But you can't use spears to hunt because that would be using physics. And no planting anything, that would be botony.

I guess you would say it is the "Californian accent". They say "like" and "oh my god" a lot and over-intonate and are loud. I am here at my university and can't even enjoy peace and quiet because of them.

Does anyone else agree that they are annoying? If you do it, can you please stop?

Are you more afraid of breaking the laws of God or the laws of Man?
And don't go with the easy answer, " I am afraid of breaking all laws"

I mean if your devotion is deep the Laws of Man can't touch you and your rewards lay beyond this life and really the laws of the Bible are a little more lax what with stoning and smiting so… which are Laws you would rather not be on the wrong side of?

Christain groups all over the world are protesting the Harry Potter books because they promote the use of magic and that is not right occording to the bible. They picket stores that sell the books and have book burnings to prove there point. But Harry Potter is not the first book of this kind. What about the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Dragons Lance series, The Inheritance series (Eragon and Eldest), ect. There have been many very popular book series to come out with magic and witchcraft in the plot. And many of them are geared toward children like Harry Potter. Some of them have come out at the same time or after Harry Potter. Why didn't christains ever protest these books?


I am not trying to put anyones religon down. I think you should believe whatever you want. I am an Atheist and don't believe in god, I was just curious why this was.
