Lawyer is not a good job for a christian. I know four lawyers who claim Christianity, only one lives like it.

Yes, being a lawyer is a good and decent profession for a Christian and religious man.

The patron saint of lawyers is St.Thomas Moore. He was Lord Chancellor to Henry VIII of England. Thomas Moore refused to give Henry a divorce so he could marry Anne Boleyn. Henry had him executed.

Lawyers are bound by a code of ethics and if they violate it,they could go to jail or loose their license to practice.

There many areas of the law you can go into. Civil Rights Law, Elder Law, Family Law, etc. all require a person who is willing to stand up to those who are corrupt or are willing to take advantage of others.

I think this is a decent thing to do and the right thing to do.

Lawyers don't have to lie.

They do have to do things that may go against their morals. For example they may hate anyone linked to child molestation. Their client is accused and might be guilty or innocent. The religious person would have a hard time working to defend a man who might turn out to really have done this.

It would also wear on your spiritually because all you'd see day after day is crime, broken homes, selfish people, and the suffering people can cause each other.

A solution might be to specialize in something like corporate or copyright law so you're not faced with individuals whose cases might conflict with your beliefs.

Lawyers are like any other profession, it is the few that give most a bad name. If you are an honest person and upholds the law then it is a good profession.

Not necessarily. Lawyers are good people. Some choice to lie but that doesn't mean that all of them do, that is just a stereotype that people have put on lawyers.

What about those lawyers who do good works? Take the lawyers who helped to convict the corporate slime from Enron? They have saved many people (though, unfortunately, not all) their life savings. Also, many corporate leaders are now being extra careful not to screw over their workers.

This would not have happened if lawyers did not sue these people.

All lawyers are not bad. The main thing is - No matter what you do, if you use God as your compass, you never get lost.

I think sometimes, these wonderful, good men & women enter this field to actually bring it up to a whole new level.

There are those (such as my wonderful law professors) who gave this profession credibility during their time, and always behaved respect & integrity.

Then, there are those (like me) who realize that this profession will change me more than I will change it... so I got out while I could.
