Many non-muslims (especially westerners ) feel that Islam is "backward" or promotes terrorism. Don't you know that the number system that you use in your everyday life " 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 " was invented (and each letter designed ) by muslims. Don't you know that the Quran (muslim holy book ) has the knowledgeof Biology, Physics, Geoography, astronomy - that was extracted by great scientists of the world.

Culture is a powerful phenomena. We see it around the world. It is hard to change even if it is detrimental to the society where it is practiced.

My question is. When so many people come to America from their "bombed out" countries, why don't they change their ways, ideals, beliefs and practices to "modernization"? Why would they still adhere to their traditions and practices that they might have actually run away from?

For example, why would a Hindu in America still worship lifeless idol that didn't or rather doesn't do much trick in their own rotten countries? Why would people not educate themselves and learn from us? Can't "they" think that if we all were practicing the same beliefs, we would be another rotten country?

Ok I live in a small town really small like 800 people. I am bi and still in the closet. Though I came out to my male cuzin 2 years ago (he is str8) and my other cuzin knows because I was after her husband one night and she kinda caught us (she is bi, but married). So the three us go to the local bar and my male cuzin went to take a leak when he said this guy was checking him out and he told the guy he has somebody he wants him to meet. The urinal guy and my cuzin come out to me and he said I want you to meet some one and my heart dropped, I turned beat red, shook the guys hand and exchanged names, but I left in such a hurry like I wasn't interested in him (but I was). The rest of the night we kept looking at each other and I still freaked out by the whole thing. Everyone in the bar knows me so I couldn't do anything or they would know I was gay or bi. Since the town is so small we would probably meet again what should I do?

does anyone else sometimes feel like they are psychic about little things that happen in your day, its weird but i will be thinking "wouldnt that be weird or cool if that happened" and it will happen that day or i will dream about it and my dreams will come true, am i the only one and do you think thats psychic or just coincidence, plus i'm bohemian(a gypsy as my grandma says) would that have anything to do with it if its true, i bought some tarot cards cuz i thought they were cool and i'm kinda into that kind of thing and everyone i did it to got freaked out cuz it described all of them perfectly dead on

If you were truly Pagan, how could you just deny the existence of the God and Goddess? It'd be like saying your right arm doesn't exist. Why would you deny them? They are in all things. What is your reasoning for this? BTW, please don't tell me to pray and ask God for forgiveness for my sins. That is not what I am about, and I am not about change my spots to suit you.

I don't of course, but why should I? And don't say miracles because those are bull plop. And don't say or "you'll go to hell if you don't" because that's a dumb answer given by people who can't answer a question.

Why is it that we need a god to justify morality. It would seem more noble that you follow morals for the greater good, not for a shot at heaven, so why are we accused for a lack of hig morals?

How does someone affirm a negative in the absolute? Isn't it like saying "There is no gold in China" You imply infinate knowledge do you not? By definition that you make you God but isn't that who you are trying to disprove?

Somebody (usually uk - but not always) asks a reasonable question, and the immediate reaction (usually US) is to pull them up on their spelling.
I've just seen a question where the asker used the word 'tyre' and the first response was to correct him to 'tire'.
This really bugs me because the English spelling is correct and we have enough illiteracy in this country without being dragged down to USA levels (lets face it, they re-wrote the dictionary so that their way was right - hey ho, it's the war all over again)
Just so's this don't turn into an anti-English/anti-American rant, what I mean to say is why do people ignore the question just to show off their ignorance?
Is this bugging anyone else?
