Many non-muslims (especially westerners ) feel that Islam is "backward" or promotes terrorism. Don't you know that the number system that you use in your everyday life " 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 " was invented (and each letter designed ) by muslims. Don't you know that the Quran (muslim holy book ) has the knowledgeof Biology, Physics, Geoography, astronomy - that was extracted by great scientists of the world.

Islam as a religion came into existence in the 700 AD. Lot of persian rulers invaded India and took the resources and converted them to arabic

The symbols for the digits in common use around the globe today are called Arabic numerals by Europeans and Indian numerals by Arabs, the two groups' terms both referring to the culture from which they learned the system. However, the symbols used in different areas are not identical; for instance, Western Arabic numerals (from which the European numerals are derived) differ from the forms used by other Arab cultures.

Aryabhata's main contribution is place value notation. In Aryabhatiya he wrote "Stanam stanam dasa gunam" or "place to place ten times in value". Place value notation is considered to be as important as finding zero.

The great Indian mathematician Aryabhata (476-529) wrote the Aryabhatiya ─ a volume of 121 verses. Apart from discussing astronomy, he laid down procedures of arithmetic, geometry, algebra and trigonometry. He calculated the value of Pi at 3.1416 and covered subjects like numerical squares and cube roots. Aryabhata is credited with the emergence of trigonometry through sine functions.

Origin of Zero and the Decimal System
The zero was known to the ancient Indians and most probably the knowledge of it spread from India to other cultures.

The decimal system is believed to have originated in India. Arab Mathematicians – Al Khawarizmi and Al-Nasavi in 825 AD and 1025 AD respectively – refer to it as ta-rikh ai Hindi and al-amal al-Hindi

Two of his most well known books are Lilavati and Bijaganita, which are translated in several languages of the world. In his book, Siddhant Shiromani, he expounds on planetary positions, eclipses, cosmography, and mathematical techniques. Another of his books, Surya Siddhant discusses the force of gravity, 500 years before Sir Isaac Newton. Sage Sridharacharya developed the quadratic equation around 991 CE. The Decimal Ancient India invented the decimal scale using base 10. They number-names to denote numbers. In the 9th century CE, an Arab mathematician, Al-Khwarizmi, learned Sanskrit and wrote a book explaining the Hindu system of numeration. In the 12th century CE the book was translated into Latin. The British used this numerical system and credited the Arabs - mislabelling it 'Arabic numerals'. There are two unique aspects to India's ancient scientists. First their discoveries are in use today as some of the most important aspects of their field; and are validated by modern technological machines. Islam brought the world out of the dark ages… while the Christians were busy burning Heretics and generally behaving like wild animals, the Muslims were doing science, art, medicine, astronomy, and even inventing zeros. But then they stopped and haven’t done much since (though I love Arabic music and belly-dancing, it rocks!)

People DO KNOW how important Islam was to civilization, but the bad thing is there are bad people out there who DO NOT want to tell others what Islam have done for the civilization, instead, they tell people that Islam contributed nothing other than violence.

There's an original name that eventually became ALGEBRA ! i can't remember it but it definitely started with AL-******** . it was a name of a famous muslim mathematician , philosopher or ULAMA in Islamic term ,.
what you said is true , many english words originated from arabic dictionary . The westerners did'nt realise it because ALLAH did'nt give them Hidayah and changed their heart . just ALLAH want to see us (MUSLIMS) move and make an effort and confront them and tell them that there is but only ONE CREATOR .
Ibrahim Alaihissalam knew he was'nt capable of changing people's perception and said to ALLAH " How far can my voice go ? " ....... And ALLAH replied " you go and do DAKWAH , I will give Hidayah " . so brother i call upon myself and to you to stand up and move to make and effort to reach to these people . ALLAH dont look at our status , inteligence , wealth ,... ALLAH look at our intentions , Qurban , and ALLAH wants us to spend our wealth USING our own HANDS (not our wealth but using hands of others). then ALLAH will change us first before ALLAH change others . INSYA-ALLAH .
