I don't of course, but why should I? And don't say miracles because those are bull plop. And don't say or "you'll go to hell if you don't" because that's a dumb answer given by people who can't answer a question.

I'm not pushing a belief. Honestly I'm thinking of joining a religion and I'm asking a question.

Bull plop on all of it! No one should pretend to believe there is a God just in case He really does exist! There ought to be proof! How does anybody know if there’s really a heaven or a hell? Who can say what is good and what is bad? I’ve certainly never seen an angel or a demon! If God really exists, how can we tell? I know my friend, Joel, exists because he talks to me, listens to me, visits with me, and does stuff with me. I even know my neighbor down the street exists because I see him pass by, and when I pass by his place I see all the stuff he owns. In order to know that God exists, He should at least pass by every once in a while. And if He’s a good God that really wants us to know Him, He should talk to us, listen to us, and even do stuff with us! So I came to the conclusion a long time ago that God exists because He talked to me through the Bible and said that my sins were forgiven. When I told Him I was sorry for my sin, I know He listened because He gave me real joy inside. God also does stuff with me all the time. Like when I saw your question on Yahoo! I couldn’t wait to give an answer because God is with me, and He wanted me to give you an answer. And in your defense I think it would be very difficult to know God exists when you stay so far away from Him. I would have mentioned the fact that there is an empty tomb where Jesus was buried, or that there is a lot of evidence for creation that the world won’t tell you about, or that everything God said in the Bible has been true; but I don’t think it would have done any good. My question for an atheist would be: does joy exist?

God does exist, that I can tell you. You don't want to hear of miracles, because you say they are bull plop. That is your opinion, and I respect that. I can tell you there are Miracles, I have seen them in my own life. Aside from Miracles, there are specific prayers I have prayed that the answer I desired could have only come from God. The answer was not something I could have made happen on my own, nor could it have been another human being who caused the answer I desired.
God is real, and his love is real. I won' t tell you you will go to Hell if you don't believe, in God, you have had others tell you that.(the fact remains that you must make a choice), but the Bible does say if you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, you will be saved, and will join God in Heaven someday. There are written accounts of people who have gone to Heaven, and come back to tell of what they have seen. (for example;read, :The Heavens Opened" by Anna Rountree,(Charisma House publishers. Or, read "The CAse for Christ", by Lee Strobel
To me, it is easy to believe God exists. Look at the human body. It is a very complex machine. The way the human body is designed, it cannot have happened by chance. The same thing with the earth. There are so many reasons to believe God exists. How could a big bang(if you believe the earth and humans are a result of that) set up day for us to get our work done, and night for our bodies to rest? What about the trees, giving off oxygen, and taking in carbon dioxide? Only a loving God could design something so complex. God is very real, his love is real, and he is ready and waiting for you.The decision to believe or not is up to you, but you can be sure I will pray you do choose to believe!!

Here are 10 reasons why you should:
1) It makes you feel good, happy, special, loved, etc.
2) There is a church down the street full of nice people that won't accept you unless you do.
3) You will blend into society much easier.
4) You won't have to argue logically about anything you "believe."
5) You will have all these wonderful services and support through a church.
6) Wishful thinking.
7) You get to use senseless dribble like "he's in a better place" at funerals.
8) You won't have to think so damn hard about everything in life.
9) You won't have to feel bad about doing immoral things because you're saved so that makes you better than a lot of people no matter how assinine you really are.
10) You won't have to defend your beliefs or your right to have them.

The real question is not why should you but how can you? How can you make yourself believe in God? You can't make yourself believe in something that just isn't there. I wish we could. There are a lot of perks. It would be nice, but I haven't figured out how to make myself believe in it either.

If you believe God exists and die, and he doesn't exist,so what. But if you don't believe God exists and then die, and he does exist ...you're screwed! Whether you choose to accept it or not, your soul lives on after your body dies. Could you actually imaging not seeing, hearing, or feeling anything ....of course you can't , because it can't happen!
I also think you should believe in miracles, because I was in an ATV accident in 1999 and had less than a 1% chance to live. It was simply by the power of prayer that I lived. The doctors pretty much gave my family no hope of me making it through the coma. But then the doctors prayed with my family, and told them it was simply all in God's hands now. So, know that a living miracle is typing to you. But really, think about it, is there something better than the All-Knowing God to put your eternal life in the hands of?

Consider your sourronding. Would it be logical to say that the car you drive just appeared or that it has a designer and a builder. How about your own body so magnifisently designed to accomplish whatever task that you instuct it to do. Better yet lets look at evolution. Science said that we evoleved from a simgle cell organizum in the water, and crawled onto land, formed a mammel (monkey) then us, PLEASE. Science clams that theirs a missing link in evolution . ITS MISSING BECAUSE IT NEVER EXISITED. Are you going to tell me that a water breathing animal all of a sudden came on land with no lungs and started breathing got up and walked. Then why is it not still happening today. I would stay off the beach some shark might crawl out the water and chase you to your car. Think about the worlds system the trees and grass they need carbon from people to survive and we need air which they produce for us. think of the seasons, time, animals, day, night. How could anyone think that all these thing work together in harmony but came from kaos. God is the designer and builder and care-taker.

I note that you do not want a religious (irrational) explanation, but at the same time you want to join a religion, which is irrational and only based on hope for happiness and fear of horrendous punishment, otherwise known as the carrot and the stick

There are two roads to truth. One based on what has been revealed to patriarchal leaders who had diverse visions, unfortunately too diverse for reconciliation, and the other based on reason, experiment, measurement and proof. The former has been using fear and punishment and death to impose its views. It led us to the dark ages and has discovered nothing. The latter takes nothing for granted, demands proof from every body how ever distinguished and honors those who disprove its old beliefs (theories) and propose better ones. It has produced incredible progress, eliminated most diseases and plagues of the past and is taking us to the moon and beyond. Make your choice.

For me "God" is the name I use for the sum total of the laws of nature. A nice simple name acceptable to the religious. You cannot pray to him, he cannot hear you. And he has no son to send to save you and if you break his laws, eg. by jumping out of the window, gravity will surely punish you. In fact you can calculate mathematically and predict exactly what that God will do. But take heart. If you do good to other people, the genes you inherited from the God (law) of evolution, will make you feel lovable happy. Have a good day

Is there a reason as to what precludes you from believing in God? You may want to start there.

I personally believe in God. Why? I find it hard to believe that thus far, in our multi millenia existance on this planet, in this galaxy, in this universe that we are the only known forms of "intelligent" life out there.

I challenge you to draw in chalk the orbits of the currently known planets in some sort of ratio on the ground, take a large yellow marble or ball and plave it at the center, and drop 9 (possibly 10) marbles or balls and see how many times (if any) it would take for you to get all the planets in their exact orbits as we know them today.

Chances are very likely that you'll be able to do it... and don't just place the marbles or balls either, that would be like acting like a god, and we wouldn't want that now would we.

Maybe, just maybe, you have had some trauma in your life where you asked where God was to save you or protect you? I don't know.

I hate to say this, but IF that is a case, God isn't here to protect or save your bodily form. He wants us with him, in the heavens. The only way to do that would be to believe that he exists and live for him. Accepting Christ as our Lord and our Saviour.

Now, granted, a lot of the bible is a collection of stories. A lot of the bible has been removed first by thsi one guy (forget his name) in the 4th century C.E. (common era, replacing A.D. for those that don't believe in christ), and then also by the Roman Catholic Church in the 13th or 14th centuries C.E.

Why, there are some books of the original bible that seemed to contradict what other books said. Take for example the recently discovered Gospel of Judas. The book goes to tell how Christ had asked Judas to betray him... a lot different that what the other Gospels seems to state...

Now, although I am christian, I do find out hard to accept that a good number of fellow christians don't seem to want to think for themselves. Yes, the bible may be a book written by man but inspired by God, but it was still written by man. There are so many misinterpretations in the bible. It wasn't until recently for example that it was dicovered that Moses did not part the Red Sea, but instead the Reed Sea. A simple mistranslation and the whole story changes.

And the 10 plagues... why did the Egyptians not write about these 10 horrors inflicted upon them... I am not saying they happened, but I am saying that whomever the true author of Exodus was... may have embellished the story.

All I am saying in the end is think. Test with your heart, and if you believe you have a soul, test it with that as well. Research, study it... in the end, if you feel that you cannot believe it, then ask yourself, what if you are wrong?

Because it's a thin stretch to think that some bacteria created a world w/such diverse organisms. We were created by a supreme being......God.

Church is a good way to become disciplined and learn of God's word. The Bible is an interesting book you can learn alot about us people with it. Sometimes the church services are boring so find a church that has some enthusianm like if they have a band or something.

If you need to view God or have some proof to answer your question then you wouldn't need faith and U need that to prove in your heart to God that U believe.....

That's what I think.

Can't think of a single reason. At least not one that makes any sense. I'll stop taking up valuable typing space that could be used by the fundies to amuse us, now.

sox4d: I can field that one! The reasons are many and varied, since atheists don't belong to any particular doctrine, of course. Some have a chip on their shoulder, certainly, some just want to rile the theists up. But for me it's simple; I value truth. When I see someone who's been misled I feel compelled to tell them the truth. Simple as that. If you knew someone in a dangerous cult, wouldn't you want to get them out of it? Sure, most people devoted to the major religions aren't actually dangerous (with a few notable exceptions) but that just means I'm a bit lazier about it. Still a cult, still misled, and I still want them to wake up to the truth.

I have a decent answer to that question. Many people look to science for answers to everything in our universe and overlook God. One scientific way I know God exists is that everyone agrees as a rule of scientific law that "matter can neither be created nor destroyed". so if this law is true and since it is a law it is true, how did the Earth and human "matter" form in the first place? it sure didn't just pop out of midair if you look for the most scientific explanation. So to all the big bang beleivers out there and theorists who have other explantions on how the earth and life formed, what started the whole process? someone had to begin this somehow. I hope this is a decent answer to your question. i know it helps me to think critically when i start disbelieving God.
