I'm in Year 10 / Grade 4 and was doing an essay on society and socioeconomic hierarchy, and I came across a topic which I haven't really explored upon.
Is your perception of posh; quintessentially english traditions/ anglo saxon/western values, people who hold dignatries i.e dukedoms, or is it wealthy beings?
And if so, could you be a person from a different ethnic background but still be part of the upper class in a western society? for example, can an asian be upper class in England? and is it possible to move up/down classes, apart from marriage?

Nowadays, preeteens, teenagers and young adults seem more concerned about materialistic possessions, physical appearance, etc .. than about knowledge and learning, and being ambitious, and wanting to make a difference in the world.. What can society do to encourage intellect and ambition?

I hear youngsters demanding respect when they mean they want to be feared. Surely they should say clearly what they mean?

Is controlling children ...abuse ?

While attending a "workshop presentation" on child abuse a corruption of sorts was noticed.

First the model used was that of 'cult-feminists' a model that attacked men, ie child abuse = men who abuse, women and children victims. You will note the polarizing nature of this half-truth.

At the workshop the 'social worker' got up and stated that child abuse begins with a parent trying to 'control' the child.

What do you think ? Is "controlling' a child, child abuse ?

I'm overweight, I don't have many friends, I'm constantly procrastinating, My room's a mess and I'm failing school. I realised I needed to change when I had a mental break-down in English yesterday. I've already drawn up a study timetable, what else should I do?

Apparently there was a Danish study (gotta love those Danes with their testing of their people) which demonstrated lower levels of sex crimes after adult film and book stores opened up in many areas. I was wondering if rape levels could be lowered here in the U.S. by legalizing prostitution. What do you think?

I love playing video games but unfortunately most of my friends don't share that hobby (the girls say it's a guy thing and the guys say they too old for that).
Three months ago I saw a video games club on my neighbourhood, and I immediately wanted to join, but my mind is keeping me from going for these three reasons:
- I haven't seen many girls there (and although there are guys my age there, I haven't seen any girls)
- I'm afraid I get there and they start looking at me like I'm a freak or something (the only girl who was there once was with her boyfriend)
- I don't know if I can just appear there by myself and say can I join (I always go with some of my friends to things like that).

What do you think I should do, forget about it or go over there to join? And if I do go there, how would you go about doing that? I don't want to look like a freak or get rejected.

Thanks for helping me with these insecurities.

I have often thought that by requiring people to work in the public sector (not neccessarily the Armed Forces) for a small period of time that the country would benefit greatly. For example, people would respect the fact that public money is not limitless and they may develop a greater respect for benefit handouts. It would also teach people self respect and may lead to future employment. Would this make the country more productive?
