As a victim of rape, my gut response was to say rape is about power and violence, not sex but I thought a minute before I responded. A lot of the violence directed at women probably springs from the abnormal way we view sex. Sex is fun, athletic, and wholesome activity but if you are trained in the antithesis of this you could possibly develop the idea that sex is something you'd never do "to" someone you love but rather as an act of aggression because after all, sex is so evil. You can probably train a person to find just about anything sexually stimulating given a big enough group to try it on and enough time to try it in.
Perhaps exposure to such things as sexy books and films helps to pattern people on consensual sex as their turn on? If such shops only sold or showed rape magazines and rape videos people might fixate on those instead?
I don't quite make the connection between prostitution and adult film and book stores - one is involved with fantasy and the other is involved with reality.
I think what a woman (or a man) does with her (or his) body is her (his) own business so long as they hurt no one else. As long as disease prevention was practiced and everything was kept strictly consensual, I see nothing wrong with legalizing prostitution. I don't think legalizing prostitution necessarily would reduce rapes, at least not in the short term. However, in the long term, it might reduce sexual assaults by making sex more normal and seen as less perverse.

I see you have received the usual social science nonsense answers about rape not being about sex, but being about violence, power or control. Next these Susan Brownmiller indoctrinates will tell you that sex has nothing to do with sex. I suppose that the availability of prostitutes has prevented some rapes, but you must remember that prostitutes are raped; and often. The man does not give money to a woman out of any altruistic need to give money; but gives it over for sex. It is a means to get sex, just as violence and power are, on average. Take date rape as example; you can not tell me that the motive of the rapist turns from wanting sex to wanting to control and oppress women in the blink of an eye. There are outliers in this as any other theory, for instance, the number of underage rapes, but I know against the social science twaddle there is a more coherent explanation of rape. So, to your question. Among the Danes this program may work very well, because of homogenization of the population. This may not work as well in the US, or it could have a detrimental effect in many areas not having anything to do with rape.

No, I don't think it would at all. If someone is that evil and just takes what they want no matter what, why would they even go to the trouble to pay a prostitute? It's not a feasible solution. People will commit crimes just for the sake of it; it's not just that they're driven by forces they can't control. The world is a sinful place, unfortunately.

I think legalizing prostitution has both benefits and detriments to society.
The benefits are regulating the use of condoms to limit the spread of stds, sex slavery would end, an incredible tax revenue and labor standards for workers.
The detriments is the legitimizing of a profession that may promote adultery and break up families.
I personally would support legal prostitution with certain enterprise zones similar to casinos. I would not patronize a brothel though for moral reasons.

I think it would but...tons of other problems open up then. Such as...What age restrictions are needed for this? Do the prostitutes have to be regularly tested? What do you do about making it a business (pimps, etc)? How are they paid (ie- government funded, small business)? Do they have to report on taxes? Will other crime rates go up?
Just a few questions that need to be answered.

EXCELLENT QUESTION! But, unfortunately not. The men or women who rape just enjoy taking something that they cannot have, so legalizing prostitution will make things worse for pimps and hoes as far as working people go. I would hate to see that on every corner and it being ok. no way!!!!!!!!

No .....
Then, think of a situation of Leagalizing Murder,
think of a situation of Leagalizing Smuggling,
think of a situation of Leagalizing Vandalism,
think of a situation of Leagalizing Terrorism,
think of a situation of Leagalizing all other crimes ...
Will it solve the issue or lower the rate ?
Definitely not ...
Only way is ...
Very Harsh Punishment .....
There are examples of countries where they have intensified harsh punishment and as a result has made the crimes getting lesser ...
There is no other means ...
Thank You ...

food and shelter are common desires for humans.
children up to the age of puberty are provided the above desires by elders in the family.then only the desire of sex comes to life. it is the only desire to be shared by two humans of opposite sex.
sex desire is not a life itself. it is sex like food and shelter for some time only. a good family life alone solves the problem. hence have a good family life to avoid rapes.

NO, rape is a crime of power and force, that involves sexual acts, it is not in and of itself a sex act.
The rapist chooses women because on average they are smaller and possess less upperbody strength, they use sex to exert their power, not because they can't get laid, but because they feel that it is a greater acheivement than to simply beat their victims. also since women do not possess the 'tools', the rapist knows that his victim will never be able to reciprocate the act upon him should they gain any power.

I think legalizing prostituition would lower desise because they could be monitered. But rape isn't a crime of sex, so it probably wouldn't lower the rates
