I believe that it can happent o anyone, you can loose your job and things can just go down hill from there... Being homeless is not something that you plan for your life it is a road you were forced to take or a path you choose... you just have to try your hardest to make the right choice to fix your situation.

Unless you are very rich it can happen to anybody. The safety net in this country is only three months.
The causes of homelessness are very complicated. Homelessness is also a trap and once you get caught up in the system it is hard to get out of. And when you are in a hostel you become instituanalised because you don't have to live in the real world so when you move into your own flat it becomes hard to cope.
A common misconception is that all homeless people have drink or drug problems. It can happen to ANYONE.
Maybe you are a man going through a devorce and your wife screws you for your house so you end up homeless?

of course..I think it could happen to anyone, no matter how well off they may think they are. All it takes is one company cut back for a person to lose everything and not be able to afford rent or house payments anymore. Alot of these "lazy bums" were family men and women just like everyone else and then something happened and they ended up on the street.
We all think nothing bad could ever happen to us, and Im sure every one of the homeless people we see thought the same way, until it happened to them.

Homelessness has happened to me. I spent 6 months living on the streets in the early 1980's and have worked very hard ever since to ensure that doesn't happen again.
I've since raised a family and own my home (with the bank's help of course) and thankfully, if I ever become homeless again, It will once again just be me. I would hate to drag my family into homelessness.

I don't think so, I have a big family and we are kind of spread out. Even if I lost my home over something unexpected, I would have a place to go.
Unfortunatly mental illness has a great deal to do with the homeless. So if one has this issue, it is a greater probabilty.
Personally I think if you are a good person especially without a mental illness or substance abuse, you will have made friends that can trust you enough to help you out of a tough situation. No one will help you if you haven't been helping yourself.

It could due to the changes in the global economy and its consequent ripples to the socio-political landscape of my developing country. I consider homelessness as something that could happen if the leaders of a nation do not take proper steps to ensure a growing economy and good relations with neighbouring countries.

yes, I live in a community where jobs are becoming scarce. It is hard to leave. My utility bills are slowly but surly catching up with my income. Not hard to see why I might be living out of my car before long. Who knows after that. Unfortunately, my house payment now exceeds my weekly income. I am not able to work a full week anymore because there is just no work. I have always made a house payment one month in advance but I don't know how long I will be able to keep that up.

well, it is possible to lose your house due to being downsized at work, mental illness could be a factor, bad choices, bad luck, etc. I am technically homeless right now, or at least a transient. I am waiting till next year to actually claim a state of residence.

Yes, corporate downsizing, outsourcing, etc..
Anything that causes unemployment could possibly lead to homlessness. Especially if you do not have anyone else to help you. The movie Dick and Jane with Jim Carrey, I think it was called, is a good example. It was a comedy but it is a very possible scenario.

I think homelessness is as much of a state of mind than a rung on the socieoeconomic ladder. So no, unless there is a world catastrophe which would drive society as a whole into homelessness, I don't think it could happen to me. Although this way of thinking myself as invincible has gotten me in trouble before...
