Psychology - January 2007

My doctor is having me try different anxiety medicines, and the first is Lexapro. I took it for the first time today. I felt great for about an hour after it kicked in... I was happy, relaxed, and not high at all. But by the time I got to work, I started feeling the same feeling as when I'm overwhelmed... extremely. It's been like that all day. Will that go away? Or should I try a new medicine? I know you're supposed to give them a couple of days, but I don't like this feeling at all. It's like I'm more anxious than I was before. I want to snap at somebody or swing a bat. I was in a daze all day, thinking about the heavy chest and waves of anxiety.

She has had this dream for two days now..She said that a object that looks like a rope has been in her dreams?How she explained her dream slightly confused me, but she said that it has been asking her stuff -As in questions.Is she lying?Or is that really true?..Not really much i can do, but she does seem to look a little scared.Do you think that children often have dreams of certain 'things' talking to them?

around you fills you with panic and anxiety? i live in a block of flats/ apartment, and every noise, bang, drill, noise of youths shouting, outside, car engines reving up, fills me with dread and anxiety. it gets me angry and i wish it would go away. im filling in diary sheets at the moment for noise nuisance from a youth underneath me that blasts music out..my mum said to day all the other noises are everyday noises and that its life....i cant work right now cos im dealing with psychiatric probls, so i cant work in preperation to find somewhere else to live...but i do realise i need to deal with this problem. can anyone help or has anyone felt like this?

Why do I feel like a child around women? Im a 32 year old woman. When I hit my teens my mum wasn't great at the Mum thing. In fact the last time I had a hug of my Mum was when I was 24 years old. No I'm not a lesbian before the smart remarks come in. My mum has tried to treat me like a child for years and still tries too. Am I looking for a role model or a mother figure??What is it?

My parents keep telling their friends how I failed, and whenever someone asks me about it I feel too embarrassed to answer. When I get to school, I think there will be people that will look down on me and rub it in my face. What should I do?

I have trouble staying focused when I'm in a conversation with my girlfriend. She just seems to go off a 1,000 miles an hour and I can't keep up with her. When she tells a story, she gives me ALL the details. As a result, I forget the main point sometimes because I'm busy trying to follow her lengthy explanation. As a result, she gets frustrated when I ask her something sometimes because she'll remind me how she already told me, etc, etc. Is there something wrong with me? I really want to listen to her and be receptive, but she sure doesn't make it very easy. Maybe, I'm being selfish. I don't know.

What causes one person to react to stress more than another? Is it genetic?

And does it often accompany high achievement? Most people who achieve much in life tend to have very high standards for themselves and get stressed out when they are not meeting those standards, for whatever reason.

Is stress therefore a healthy byproduct? Are we ruining our high achievers by telling them they have disorders and medicating them?

I confronted a cousin about a innapropriate comment made the previous day of the service for the death of my grandpa. We don't talk and i had no way of getting ahold of her after the service. I approached her in a secluded halway and told her my hurt. Apparently someone overheard. My grandmother found out and was quite upset. I felt it was so wrong for her to talk badly about anyone during a grieving process and i don't feel like i was in the wrong. Any suggestions?

What is it called pschologically? How do you fix it?
The other day, while job searching, an HR lady emailed me asking some info about my experience and acedemic scores. I went over the response for 5hours before sending it! I felt it had to be just right, as if I can control the messeage and the reader's responses and feelings if I tailor the words the right way; thereby increasing my chances of another favorable response from the HR lady. Today, I called a place about an application deadline and the secretary started making small talk-I wasn't prepared for it so quickly stated my question and got off the phone-she seemed offended by me not chit-chatting. Now, I'm obsessing all day thinking about how I should have talked more to make a good impression. She doesn't know my name or anything but it seems I could have "worked" the conversation better. Now my head hurts thinking about it so much! It's not that I worry, but I obsess over thinking how I could have done it better-strategy.

The question is raised, because we are intelligent beings, and must differ from animals. Must repect other living creatures. Also, if we do not stop eating meant, we will eventually start eating human meat, legally. We are over crowding the earth, and nothing if enough. Our requirement is becomming more and more, with no thought of leaving some for our children and their children.

I´m living in Germany for a few years already and go to school here. When my stupid latin teacher found out I was American she didn´t leave out a chance to insult our culture... Today it was really bad, she said Americans had no kind of education and we were all so stupid and didn´t even know our names... O come on, that really hurts, I´d like to kill her, what shall I do with her? What can I say ( I need a good grade in Latin to pass...) great! Should I really let her insult me?
