silk purse out of a cows ear' as look what the appliance of science has done for Jane Goody! Once she looked as ugly as sin now she looks not three bad.

Can you think of any that you could not apply in todays world?

To me they are anecdotes as you can tell as story They're certainly not proverbs. And 'not three bad' is something you will find a Lancanshire person sprouting... a wee bit of rhetoric here. And my grammar is just fine as is my spelling and my life.

Erm! 'Jade' Goody ....and 'the appliance of science.'

Some American Millionaire, some years back, so the story went, took a pigs ear and had it made into a thread.

Along with silk thread, he had it woven into a the proverbial 'Silk Purse,' thus dispelling that age old and long held theory once and for all.

As for Ms Goody looking...! Well, let's just say that thee 'appliance of science' seems to only work on 'the external.'

Sash.

You mean a proverb, not an anecdote. An anecdote is a story about something that happened to you.
Get a life, a dictionary and a grammar. What is "not three bad"??

That's not an anecdote. An anecdote is a story; a relating of an incident. The word you're searching for is 'motto' or 'proverb'.

Also, that motto is not 'irrelevant', it is simply no longer accurate or applicable. It is 'obsolete'. That is not the same as irrelevant.

Keep studying that vocabulary!
